Margaret Eileen Carraher
Margaret E. Carraher, 62, of Richland, passed away on January 2, 2014, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 21, 1951, in Anaconda, MT.
Since birth, Margaret was challenged with a hearing impairment and communications disabilities, but that didn't stop her from waking up at dawn to do some bird watching at an early age. Throughout the years Margaret would start her own collection of model birds.
She attended special education classes where she developed a skill for math and numbers. As she became older she loved to go shopping for shiny trinkets, rhinestones, glitter, fur and anything purple. She was blessed to travel with her parents to Hawaii, Florida and Mexico
Margaret's favorite time of the year was the Holiday Season. She became quite the card writer and sender and they were so delightful to receive. She was an avid Benton-Franklin Transit rider. When she learned the transit system, she rode it to any local events especially the Benton-Franklin Fair.
Margaret's best shared times were with her father who would sing old country songs to her, like "Ragtime Cowboy Joe" and read "Roosty" over and over again.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and previously worked for Columbia Industries.
Margaret was a beautiful pearl in a rough exterior. She had a plucky soul and was determined to be independent.
Margaret is survived by her brother, Dr. Michael Carraher Annette Bauman; sister, Kathleen Carragher; sister, Kerry Engbarth James; brother, Terrance Carraher; two nephews; five nieces and several grandnephews and grandnieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, father, Eugene Carraher and her mother, Caroline Carraher.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, January 10, 2014, at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church. A graveside inurnment will follow the memorial service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland.
The family invites you to Christ the King Catholic Church for a reception after the graveside service from 12:30-1:30pm.
Donations may be made to the South Eastern Washington Services of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, 124 North 5th Ave, Pasco, WA 99301, 509-543-9644 or to Columbia Industries, 900 South Dayton Street, Kennewick WA 99336, 509-582-4142
I am so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing. She really was kind of a regular part of daily life in Richland. She would visit us quite regularly at the Richland Chamber of Commerce office..getting maps and brochures…buying Cool Desert Nights Ts…I saw Margaret often at Albertsons or near the library and at Knight Street transit center..usually telling those kids not to smoke! She was unique and i will miss seeing her around town. Rest in peace!
My thoughts and prayers are with your family right now. I am so sorry for your loss. I want you to know that I drove by right after the incident. I knew something terrible happened and have been praying ever since the moment I passed by in my car. Margaret and your family have been lifted in prayer from the very start. You have not be alone! I have seen Margaret around the Tri-Cities and have grown up watching her take daily walks. She often came into the Salvation Army and Central Church buildingswhen I worked there on staff. She was a sweet soul and my heart was so sad hearing the news of her passing. Your loss is Heaven’s gain and I hope you find comfort in knowing Margaret is at peace in the loving arms of the Lord healed, alive, and in complete joy, although she will be missed here. May God bless you all.
My heart goes out to you Kathy and family. May god be with you and bless you. I remember seeing Margaret on the bus.

Mike and family I am so sorry to hear of your sisters passing,I used to see her walking around Richland and often thought that she must be in pretty good health for as much walking as she did.I believe she is walking with God now and has no worries. I want to say again I am very saddened to hear of her passing. Jim Adair
My sincere blessings and condolences to all the Carraher family in the loss of your sister, Margaret. Growing up, I admired how faithful and spiritual you all were. May God bless and protect you all through this trying time.
Mike and family–your sister was such an inspiration–she was out walking, no matter the weather. I so enjoyed seeing her and I admired her spirit very much. So very sorry–may she rest in peace.
I am so sorry for your loss. For years I have seen your sister in Albertsons or getting off the bus near uptown or walking to Goodwill. She was a fixture in our city, and I will miss seeing her. She always looked very determined and fearless.

Dear Carraher family, I send my sincere condolences to all of you in the loss of your dear Margaret. I am so glad I was able to see her at the last family reunion in Montana. She was an amazing woman and her dear parents allowed he the chance to grow into an independent and capable woman. They would be so proud of the Kathy’s care during the last few years. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Love, Marilyn
