Harry Zweifel

Harry A. Zweifel passed away peacefully on April 15, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Richland, WA. He shared a room there with his wife Catherine with whom he was married for 71 years. Harry was 96. Both he and his wife have received excellent care at the Life Care Center.
Harry was born in St. Louis, MO. His character and values derived largely from growing up through the depression. He always appreciated the importance of being educated and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1940 with a B.S. in chemical Engineering. He was the President of his Engineering Fraternity all four years he was in school. Harry worked under Enrico Fermi at the University of Chicago on the Manhattan Project shortly after graduating from the University of Iowa. He later moved to Richland in 1944 to continue this work. He left Richland for a few years but was back to stay in 1948. He worked at Hanford until 1980 when he retired at the age of 62. Harry enjoyed league bowling for years. He also enjoyed family get togethers and golfing at the Tri-City Country Club. He supported his children in all their various activities and was especially generous in that support.
Harry is survived by his wife, Catherine; their four children, Gary Zweifel Ramona of Everett, WA, David Kristi of Richland, Cheryl Tofte of Portland, OR, and Curtis Carola Zweifel of Mt. Vernon, WA; grandchildren, Kara Stoker, Chris Zweifel, Daniel Zweifel all of Richland, Darby Zweifel of Everett and Zach Zweifel of San Francisco, CA. We, his children, count ourselves very fortunate to have had him as our dad. His loyalty and constancy to us and his friends, his great sense of humor and his considerable integrity will keep him always in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Events at Sunset at 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, WA 99352, followed by interment at Sunset Gardens.

  • I am so sorry not to be able to attend Harry’s services at the Event Center. I will be flying to Michigan that day. My heart goes out to all of you. I will always remember Harry with a smile on his face when he would come into the office. I will pray for the repose of his soul and for peace and comfort for all of the family.
