Steven D. Posten
Richland resident Steven Douglas Posten Sr., 60, passed away April 18, 2014, at his home after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer.
Steve was born May 22, 1953, in Corning, Iowa to Orville E. and Margaret A. Seid Posten. Upon the death of his father in 1956, his mother moved Steve and his older brother Mike to Chula Vista, CA.
Steve married Joyce Dawson on May 3, 1980, in San Diego, CA and in June 1980 they moved to Richland, WA to begin his career at Hanford.
Steve worked as an Ironworker/rigger in San Diego's NASSCO ship yard for 5 years and was a member of the Local #627 Union. In 1980 he became a member of the Iron Workers Local #14 Union when he began working at Hanford. Combined, he completed 39 years of service.
Steve was an avid fisherman of perch to salmon and everything in between. During the 80's and 90's he helped coach numerous little league, T-ball, basketball, flag and grid kid football teams while raising three boys in Richland. He also loved camping, NASCAR and telling stories. But most of all he loved time with friends and family. His family wrote: "Dad was always ready with a smile and a story. He had a way of brightening your day and making people laugh."
Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joyce of Richland; son, Steven Posten Jr. of Richland; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Stephanie Posten of Yakima, WA; son, Kevin Posten of Richland; and son, Jason McEndoo of Bozeman, MT.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Orville; mother, Margaret and brother, Mike.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Tri-Cities Cancer Center, Northwest Cancer Clinic, Dr. Chin, Dr. Hamarneh, the Hospice at The Chaplaincy, and the caring nurses of Professional Case Management for playing an important role in Steve's comfort.
Einan's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held 3pm Friday April 25, 2014 at Memories at Sunset Event Center at 915 Bypass Highway Richland, WA 99352.
