William A. Bill McCullough
William A. Bill McCullough, 91, of Richland died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at home. He was born December 9, 1922 in Stockton, California, and grew up in his beloved San Francisco. After the start of World War II, he joined the Navy where he served as an aviation radioman and was stationed in Hawaii, Guam and China.
In 1946 Bill married Regina Jean Boss and moved to Casper, Wyoming, to run the Rocky Mountain Division of the McCullough Tool Company. Ten years later the family returned to California where he worked as Vice President at the company headquarters in Los Angeles. In 1979 he and his wife relocated to Richland, Washington, where he was an industrial engineer at Rockwell and Westinghouse. He retired in 1989, two years before his wife of 45 years passed away.
Bill loved to travel and was an avid outdoorsman, sharing his love of camping, hunting, boating and fishing with three generations of family. After retiring, he spent winters in Arizona where he made many dear friends and shared wonderful adventures with his loving partner of 21 years, Virginia Christensen, now of West Richland.
Bill is survived by his three daughters, Susan McCullough Berry of Richland, Nancy McCullough Campos of Delafield, WI, and Janet McCullough and her husband, Tony Stearns of Saipan; grandchildren, Glynis Frederiksen Aries, Peter Berry Caroline, Jonathan Berry Kristen, Trina Scott and Hannah Campos, and Emma and Clay McCullough-Stearns; great grandchildren, Lane and Kate Berry and Colin and Riley Berry. He is also survived by his brother in-law, Arthur Boss JoAnn and sister in-law, Sophie Fontaine, all of Denver, Colorado, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and several close family friends.
A private graveside service will be held June 4, 2014 with a celebration of Bill's life to be held in November.
Many thanks to Bill's hospice team, Katrina, Colleen, Stephanie, Dara and Craig as well as the Hospice House staff for their loving care and support of Bill and his family.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Chaplaincy Hospice, Richland, Washington.
Where do I start? So many memories? Bill was part of our family starting the very day we moved in to our house across from the McCullough’s. I can only hope that Martha and I returned his friendship many times over. I think he touched many lives: family, friends, neighbors and many others. We thought of Bill many times. Now we will miss him. My daughters Katie and Becky referred to Bill as “Grandpa Bill”. A honorary but well deserved title. If you can, please give us a call.
