Doris Virginia Davis
Doris V. Davis, of West Richland, 89 years of age, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014 in Richland. She was born March 27, 1925 to Leonard and Gladys Dean in Worland, MO. They eventually moved to Ft. Lupton, CO where she spent her school years, graduating high school there. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. In 1943 she met and married the love of her life, John C. Davis, who had just enlisted with the Navy and would be off to Italy till the end of World War II. During their separation Doris worked at an aircraft factory for the war effort and also delivered their first child, a son. When John returned from the war they eventually decided to move out West where work was more plentiful and wages were better. They moved several times in the course of their marriage. John was an Operating Engineer, working on various dams mostly on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. For most of her married life Doris was a homemaker with a capital H. She loved taking care of her family. However, when the children had grown up, she attended Business College in Kennewick, earning a Secretarial Degree and gaining employment at a local real estate office. She loved her job but after a few years and moving to acreage in Burbank, WA where she could garden to heart's content, she quit her job and concentrated on growing almost everything you could name. Roses were her favorites, but she had flower beds, vegetable gardens and fruit trees of many kinds. She and John lived in the Tri-Cities area for approximately 45 years.
Doris is survived by John, her husband of almost 71 years; their son, James Davis of Everett, WA and his son, Clayton Davis Brandy of Marysville, WA; their daughter, Linda Pettigrew husband Gary and their two daughters, Julie Pettigrew Ramos Miguel Ramos and Kelly Pettigrew Steve Murray and their son, Quinn Murray Mom's first great grandchild all of Bellingham, WA. She is also survived by her younger sister Betty Windsheimer of Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother, Harold Dean.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 11, 2014 at 1:00pm at Events at Sunset in Richland.
