Dorothy Lee Chase

Dorothy Lee "Dottie" Chase passed into eternal life on Friday, September 5th, 2014, in Richland, Washington, in the presence of family. She was 92 years of age. Dorothy Jolley was born in 1922 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and moved with her family to Sioux City, Iowa in 1925. In 1933 the family moved to Sturgis, SD, where Dorothy attended school. In school, Dottie loved to play trumpet in the band. After high school, Dorothy attended the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, Wyoming. She then attended nursing school at the Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois, where she met her husband, Robert Chase, a medical resident at the time. The couple married and lived in Colorado Springs while Bob was in the army. They started their family there prior to settling in Richland.

In her younger years, Dottie enjoyed skiing, swimming, and golf. She was extremely fond of card games, especially Bridge, Pegs and Jokers, and Cribbage – which she played up until a few days before her passing. She loved to entertain in her home, and would always host large family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas, cooking wonderful meals, and always finishing with a delicious home-baked pie or two. Dorothy was a loving, caring woman who was always fond of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved her pets and treated them as family.

Dorothy is survived by a wonderful family of five children Barbara Allen Don, William Chase, Judiee Goodman Gary, Thomas Chase Kim, Steve Chase Mafe, ten grandchildren Tracie, Christie, Rob, JR, Theresa, Thomas, John, Julia, Akira, and Miles, and five great grandchildren Kyle, Chance, Jadyn, Conner, and Ryker, her special friend Hubert Konkle, and nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded by her parents Floyd O. Jolley and Adele Jolley Meyer, her brothers Billy and Bob, and her husband, Robert.

A Rosary will be held this Friday evening at Christ the King Church in Richland, at 7:30 PM. Per her wishes, a private family burial will take place on Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. There will be a celebration of her life at 3-4 pm Saturday, at Einan's Funeral Home Chapel, also in Richland, which friends of the family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, Richland, WA.

  • I was so sorry to read about Mrs. Chase’s passing. Our families go way back and we always held the Chase family in such high regard. Please know that for me there will always be a Harville-Chase connection because of our dads, dogs and old neighborhood. With greatest sincerity and sympathy, Nancy Harville.

  • Dorothy was like a 2nd mom to me. I loved her very much. I have not seen her in a long time but every xmas I would get a card. She was strong but elegant and was the perfect hostess. She always made me feel welcome in her home and will be forever missed. God Bless you Mrs. Chase.
