Sheila Q. Bennett

Sheila Q. Bennett, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away from complications after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecelia Quinn mother, Vivien Quinn father, and John Quinn brother.

Sheila was born February 27, 1943 in Pittsburg, CA. She grew up in Butte, MT. She attended Immaculate Conception grade school and Girls Central High School. Throughout high school, Sheila loved to sing with her a cappella group, the Coquettes. They even recorded a record and promoted their group to Dennis Day.

Sheila attended Montana State University 1961-1963. She married David W. Bennett in 1964, and in 1966 they moved to Richland where they raised their family. Sheila was very proud of her three children, Pam, David, and John. She dedicated her time to raising them, and then began her career working at JC Penney.

After graduating from Central Washington University, Sheila began working for Battelle as technical editor. Sheila enjoyed traveling the world. She traveled to Russia, Nepal, Tibet, Peru, Iceland, Ireland, Western Europe, and Cabo to name a few.

Sheila has always enjoyed her dogs, most recently Phoebe and Finnegan. She trained Phoebe to become a therapy dog through Delta Society. She was also a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, book clubs, bunko, and enjoyed attending local theatre and music performances.

Sheila loved her family. She very much enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and participating in their lives. She watched many music concerts, soccer games, swim meets, and dance recitals. On many occasions, she took her family to her favorite spot, Lincoln City, where many memories were made. In 2007, Sheila gathered her entire family for a weeklong adventure in Maui, Hawaii. We survived our trip to Hana, went whale watching, enjoyed a luau, and were able to just enjoy being together.

Sheila had an amazing group of friends from Tri-Cities and Butte. We have greatly enjoyed their stories, support, and love. Sheila valued their deep, understanding friendships.

Sheila is survived by her loving family: Mary Kay Driscoll sister, and husband Jim. Pamela Bennett Wilson daughter and husband Joe; David J. Bennett son and wife Lara; John C. Bennett son and wife Catherine; and the pride of her life, her grandchildren: Stephanie and Kristin Wilson; Koreen and Dominik "Niko" Bennett; Julianne, Christina, and Jennifer Bennett.

Sheila's passing leaves a large, sudden hole in all of our lives. She will be deeply missed, but with us always. She will be with us in the color green, cocker spaniels, and Irish lore. A memorial celebrating Sheila's life will be held at Einan's Funeral Home at 10am on Friday September 26th.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Sheila's name to Breast Cancer Charity of your choice.

  • May all your wonderful times with Sheila help to carry you through this very difficult time. Her St. Patrick’s Day corn beef and cabbage was always delicious. I have many memories of travels with her, both near and far. Monument Valley was an especially spiritual place for both of us. I will love you always, Sheila.

  • Sheila was a rare and beautiful woman. I shared Woman’s Group with her for many years and have always remembered her calm sweet spirit fondly.

She had the unique combination of being deeply spiritual as well as majorly fun.

She was fearless in all of her world travels and I admired how she, as a single woman, designed and built her dream home.

The thing that always brought a real sparkle to her eye though was her children and precious grandchildren. She just loved them so much.

I know this is devastatingly hard for you but her spirit is still here with us.

Much love Sheila and smooth transition.

  • My deepest sympathy to Sheila’s family on your loss. Sheila and I go back to our days in grade and high school, and times after we were married. We always had so much fun. I’m grateful that she no longer has to be in pain an is home safe in the arms of our Lord. Please know that I will keep you all in my prayers.

  • I lost touch with Sheila after high school, but regret that after reading her beautiful story. Leaving life behind, all of us leave a legacy of the lump in the throat and the wish we could have done something to extend her radiant life. Her kids and grandkids will always remember the force in their lives that was Sheila. My prayer for them today is that they live up to the dignity and love she showed to all of them and to everyone whose life touched hers, even for the briefest moment. Rest in Peace, O redheaded child of my past.

  • I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Sheila. She with her elegant and lovely ways was a dear friend from high school. Although we met infrequently over the years, the distance and the time melted away easily. I know that many people loved her and that she will be deeply missed.

  • Love and condolences to you all as you miss this wonderful woman. Sheila was a loved and appreciated colleague at PNNL. Though I missed her greatly after her retirement, I was always glad she kept living life to the fullest. May you find comfort in your memories and feel her love for you always.

  • I had the privilege to know Sheila because of her wonderful dogs, Phoebe and Finnegan. I was their pet sitter for several years and over time Sheila and I exchanged many phone conversations regarding their care, her trips and even times she was gone for treatments. She was a wonderful, caring person and I will miss her and her dogs very much.

  • Sheila was a great friend to many and will be missed by all.

Every other Wednesday, a group of retired editors lunched together. We had some great discussions. We occasionally dared to talk about politics — a hot topic for Sheila.

    You are missed.
