Louisa Jahnke

Mom rejoined her eternal companion, Bill Jahnke, one can only imagine what a happy time that must have been. Mom gently passed on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Calloway Gardens of cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Mom was born on May 30, 1924 in Bison, South Dakota to Henry and Eva Rosen. Mom grew up on a farm in South Dakota, and then moved to Hamilton, Montana, where she met Bill, while he was playing high school basketball. She then moved to Newberg, Oregon where while in high school and during WWII she worked in the Portland ship yards as a welder for the armed forces.

After the war Bill came home – married mom in April of 1947, they honeymooned 6 months finally getting a job at Hanford in Richland, Washington, where they would live for the rest of their lives. Mom loved traveling the world from China to Australia to even driving a motorhome through Germany with a friend. Mom was a great oil painter and always had some craft going on.

Mom and dad had a cabin at the Bumping Lake area which she loved and today is still in our family. Thank you mom for the cabin times, Montana vacations, Santa days and for all the trips and babysitting you did for your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Yes mom, there will be cookies and mochas in Heaven. Thank you for being our mother and my best friend. We will miss you each day of our lives.

Louisa is survived by her children: Linda (Dale)LaCour, Jay (Diane) Jahnke and Jim Jahnke; grandchildren: Donna LaCour, Daina (Scott) Galster, Debbra LaCour, Tyler (Jessica) Jahnke and Jason Jahnke; great-grandchildren: Kristofer Groce, Dominiquie (Tabby) Groce, Ashley (Jazz) Cartagena, Zachary Galster, Emma Ann Paulson, Riley Galster; great-great-grandchildren: Jeyd’n and Lilly Groce; her brother, Ruben and her sisters: Martha, Delores and Ruth.

She was preceded in death by husband, Bill; her parents: Henry and Eva Rosen; brothers: Herbert, Henry and Ted Rosen; and her loving daughter-in-law, Melodyann Jahnke.

Thank you to all the caregivers at Calloway Gardens, your kindness poured out each day, and Hospice for her last days when we needed you, you were there.

  • Thoughts and prayers go out to all the Jahnke family. We have been friends with Jim for over 40 years but didn’t get to know your lovely mom until the end. We saw her often at Callaway, as we also visited our mom who also resides there. Louisa was quite a character and will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences go out to you all.

  • My condolences to Louisa’s family. By far, one of the neatest “Moms” I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She will truly be missed, and forever Loved.
