Berta Lanell Phillips
Berta Lanell Phillips passed away on February 9, 2015 at the age of 82. Berta was born on December 8, 1932, to Harvey and Mary Walker in Sayre, Oklahoma. The family moved to the Yakima Valley area and she attended school in White Swan. She married Granville Harry Phillips in Harrah in 1948 and they were married sixty-three years until he passed away in 2011.
They moved to Richland in 1952 where they raised their five sons. She worked for a short period of time in the kitchen at Lewis and Clark Elementary School and for many years at Fiber Mosaic in Kennewick
Berta enjoyed any activities that involved her sons and their families. She went agate hunting, boating, and camping. She became a great sports fan and a supporter of the arts as she attended ball games, recitals, and concerts.
She thoroughly enjoyed and had a very special relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Richland and taught JOY Club and Sunday School for many years. She was a great prayer warrior for her family and friends and loved by all.
She is survived by her five sons and their families: Dale and Marilyn Phillips (Brea, CA), Steve Phillips (Irrigon, OR), Rob and Sue Phillips (Kennewick, WA), Jeff and Linda Phillips (Pasco, WA), and Tim and Karen Phillips (Pasco, WA). She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Services will be at First Baptist Church in Richland, WA on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
So sorry to read of Bertas passing. She was a joy to work with at Fiber Mosaic. Her smile and wit made our days at work so enjoyable. She talked of her family often with great love. Many will have fond memories of her.
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of, Mrs. Phillips. With all her accomplishments, her love and joy, she was an amazing woman. I won’t pretend to know what you’re going through, but what has helped me deal with the loss of those I love is turning to the Scriptures, something that has been a real source of comfort. One Scripture that gives me hope is John 11:25, which says, ” Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” I hope that this verse will also comfort you and, I hope you and your family can get through this difficult time. Please accept my condolences for the loss of your beloved mother. Sincerely, Meryl
