Gwen Beverly Schienbein, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister

Gwen was born to Reinhold and Emma (Rosnau) Hennig on April 15, 1949 in
Lamont, Alberta, Canada. After graduating from Lamont High School in 1967, she
attended the University of Alberta where she earned her Bachelor of Education

Lawrence Schienbein. Gwen began her teaching career in the fall of 1971.
While living in Thunder Bay, Ontario, they were blessed with the
addition of their daughter Robin. After moving to Edmonton, Alberta, son, Brian
completed their family. The family later moved to California, where Gwen worked
at Amador Valley High School. From there, they relocated to Tri-Cities,
Washington. Gwen enjoyed trying something new and different by working in a
winery tasting room for 4 years. After leaving the winery, she enjoyed working
as a secretary at Redeemer Lutheran Church where she touched the lives of many.
After losing Lawrence in January of 2006, Gwen found happiness again
when she met and married Kenneth Dodge in 2009.
Gwen enjoyed playing tennis, reading, crocheting, walking the dogs,
taking trips in their camper, and spending time with her family and friends.

as her children: Robin (Kent Fruits) Schienbein of Topeka, KS and Brian (Arika)
Schienbein of Kennewick, WA; stepsons: Josh Dodge and Scott Norton;

service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society, a cause very close to her heart and family.
I was saddened this morning to find Gwen entered into God’s presence last month. May He rest her soul. I pray He has sent the Holy Spirit to comfort Ken, Robin and Brian as they mourn her passing. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. I will treasure all the years we have known each other. Gwen was a special friend with a unique sense of humor. Rest in peace dear friend.
From the first time we met Gwen we loved her and that never ended. She was our brother’s best friend and continued to be just that always. We will miss her always and one day we will meet again…Thank you God for that hope.
Dear Robin, Brian and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May the loving memories of your dear mother sustain you during this time. Gwen’s smile and great sense of humour will always be a wonderful memory for us. Take care and please know that you are in our prayers.
With all our love,
Lorelei, John, Keir and Hope Campbell
Dear Robyn and Brian,
We are deeply saddened by the passing of your Mom. We met you both in Mississauga, Ont, when you were quite young. Thereafter, we met at very meaningful times, weddings within the Betke family. We always looked forward to seeing your Mom and enjoying her particular sense of humour.
Now we will miss her as we have missed your father Lawrence.
We wish that you and your whole extended family find comfort in the days to come.
Love, Sue and Mike
Dear Brian and Robyn – I always enjoyed my time with your Mom and Dad. And, of course you two. I always wanted to have kids – and you guys were my way to enjoy kids. (of course as God would have it – I now have 3 wonderful kids – I wish you could meet them)
Your Mom and Dad were wonderful, kind, loving people. I know they will be watching over you both.

Gwen was a lovely lady and I was privileged to have been a part of her healthcare team before I moved to Oregon. I have fond memories of her laugh and beautiful smile. May your memories of good times you shared give you comfort.
I had the wonderful pleasure of getting to know Lady Gwen and Ken over the past year and some odd months. She was a delight to be around and I will miss her greatly. All my thoughts prayers and love to Ken and the family.
We were so saddened to hear of Gwen’s death last Sunday. She was so joyful in her last letter looking forward to upcoming family events. Her generous spirit and kindness will be missed by many. While still at Redeemer the two of us enjoyed many laughs and tears sharing thoughts and stories about our spouses and families! She was a friend who listened and offered support whenever needed. I will truly miss her, especially her wonderfully sharp and witty sense of humor! We pray God’s comfort surrounds all of you in the days ahead and the memories bring a smile.
Love from Audrey
I will miss you dearly. You were like a mother to me. I enjoyed your friendship, our laughs in the office, and the many other fun times we shared at Redeemer. I found your list of “toddisms” and will add many more until we meet again in heaven. Ken, you found a special friend in Gwen. May you be surrounded by the many memories you both have shared.
