Herbert Gamber
Herbert Hampton Gamber (81) passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 59 years; sons: Stephen and John (Sheree Benson); daughter, Cindy (Maurice) Lebeau; and grandchildren: Erin and Sarah Gamber and Quentin Lebeau.
Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa he showed an early
interest in medicine inspired by his mother, who was a nurse. He learned
gardening and a love for trains from his father. After graduating from
University of Iowa, Phi Beta Kappa and while at University of Iowa Medical
School, Phi Rho Sigma he joined the Army and served 21 years traveling around
the world with his family. He served a year in Vietnam.
After retiring from the Army, he worked in private practice at Northwest Orthopedics for 18 years and then as a Medical Consultant for 16 years. He was a member of Benton-Franklin County Medical Society, AMA, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and North Pacific Orthopaedic Surgeons Society.
Herb was blessed with a thirst for knowledge and was respected for his intellect and abilities. He enjoyed being an educator on many topics. He also had a wry sense of humor.
As an outdoor enthusiast he enjoyed scuba diving, tennis, hiking and skiing. He especially enjoyed working in his garden and sharing his bounty with a tour around the yard and a bag of flowers or vegetables for friends and family to take home.
His passion for traveling motivated him to experience 47 countries and all 50 states. One of his special adventures was when he had a chance to be a train engineer for a day on a scenic route in Boone, Iowa. Exploring new places fed his desire to learn more. Arriving home from a trip, he would begin planning for the next road less traveled.
He truly had a unique fascination and wonder for the fullness of life.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of
Herb’s life at Meadow Springs Presbyterian Church; 325 Silver Meadows Drive, Richland,
WA 99352 on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:00am.
The family thanks the staff at Richland Rehabilitation for their outstanding care.

To Barbara & Family,
It is with deep sadness to hear of Herb’s passing after having known him for some 38 years. He is one of our most beloved colleaques. We will always remember his astute intellect & pleasant personality. We have exchanged patients in consultations & always have high regard for his professional opinions. We would certainly miss him in our monthly Medical Society (BFCMS) meetings. It is interesting that we both went thru the military, serve in the Vietnam war & share love & passion for adventure travel. Be it with some comfort that our thoughts & prayers are with you with our heartfelt sympathy & condolence of Herb’s passing. We too shall miss him.
Wishing you all Gods Peace
