Patricia “Patty” Treadwell Boddy

Patricia Ann Treadwell Boddy passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2015, at the age of 69. Messages of condolence, love, prayer and appreciation flowed in from California, Peru, Honduras, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Washington and Puerto Rico, testifying to the deep impact she had on the lives of people wherever she lived. She was born and raised in San Diego, was active in student government, played flute in her school band, was an avid hiker and an accomplished amateur entomologist.

She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Religion from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and thereafter earned a lifetime teaching credential for California. She worked for many years as a bilingual elementary school teacher. From the time she joined the Bahá’í Faith in 1966, her ever-deepening devotion, sense of duty and adventurous spirit led her into a life of service in whatever capacity was needed. In places as far flung as El Centro, Arequipa, Ramona, Tegucigalpa, Santa Cruz, Managua, Kennewick or Cabo Rojo she taught children's classes, animated junior youth groups, tutored youth and adults, and helped develop new Bahá’í communities.

Friends fondly recall her welcoming home, goofy yet sharp sense of humor, and appreciation for natural and artistic beauty. Her soul joins those of her husband Peter Boddy, mother Dorothy Treadwell, and infant son Enoch Muhajir in the spiritual worlds to come; while she is remembered on this earthly plane by her sons, Louis and William; sister, Barbara; brother, David, and their loving families.

  • I knew Patty Boddy and her husband and sons in Honduras. I had no idea that she had left this plane of existence until just this past 24 hours. She always was able to lift my spirits during difficult times. Her husband and sons were so wonderful too. Her house was always filled with people and laughter. I hope to meet up with her shining spirit someday again. It was a gift to know her.

  • I knew Patty from 5th grade through high school. My family moved from Ohio in my 5th grade year to CA. It was at the time, a rough transition, Patty was one of the nice people I met, who helped me through it! She was a wonderful, loving friend to me, as I am sure she was to so many others! Through her love and kindness, touching so many, she lives on, in all of our hearts!

  • I was stunned to learn that my friend, whom I had known since 5th grade, had journeyed out into the Cosmos. We had lost touch over the years, but I still thought of her and wondered where life had taken her. My heartfelt condolences to her family. Such fond memories of time spent together in Girl Scouts – I’ll never forget when we put on our own production of “Rumpelstiltskin.” She was stellar playing that mischievous dwarf! There were fun times spent together in high school as we both were in orchestra and marching band. Her devotion to her faith is admirable and I’m glad she was able to share her “light” in different parts of the world. Though we are hurting as we miss her, she is continuing to do her good works in a realm we are not meant to understand. Miss you, Patty.

  • Patty was a resident a Guardian Angels and sat at the same table in the dining room as my mom, who is also a resident there.
I had many wonderful conversations with her and even though her current condition made it difficult for her to converse at times, I quickly saw the Patty inside, and knew that she was a warm, witty, intelligent woman with a life full of experience of loving and helping others. She shared many things about her life with me about her life and family. It was an honor to know her. We will miss her presence at the dinner table.
