Slobodan Draskovic passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington. He had lost his courageous battle with cancer; which he had fought for two years.
Slobodan was born July 16, 1948 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Shortly thereafter he moved to Mostar at his young age. He graduated high school and worked at an aluminum factory plant. In 1979 he married Jadranka and had two sons: Boris and Igor. Slobodan was an avid basketball player and was part of a local basketball club. They lived a fulfilled life until the war in 1992, where their family was torn apart by the civil war.
Slobodan, his wife, and the older son had moved to United States in December of 1994 to meet with his younger son and the rest of the family. Slobodan had started a new life in Richland. He chose a new occupation as a Baker at Safeway. He worked very hard and was well respected in the community. At the age of 64 he took an early retirement as he started to battle Bladder cancer. During the next two years he fought courageously, as he watched his two new grandsons being born and enjoyed watching them grow.
He was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ever hope to have. He was loved very much and will truly be missed. His great love and care for everyone will always be remembered
Slobodan was survived by his wife, Jadranka; sons: Boris and Igor; brother, Dragan; nephew, Daniel; daughters-in-law: Bethany and Maria; grandsons: Nikolas and Adonis; sister-in-law, Zorana; brothers-in-law: Zoran, Milorad and their families as well as numerous other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held June 10, 2015 at 5:00 pm, at Events at Sunset; 915 Bypass Hwy, Richland, WA. Graveside Service will follow at Sunset Gardens. A reception will be held immediately following Graveside Service at the Draskovic’s residence; 343 Sanford St, Richland, WA.

I knew Boris and Igor as their counselor at Hanford High School. They were fortunate to have a father such as Mr. Draskovic. It was always a pleasure to see him at Safeway, and he never failed to have a smile and a greeting to me. I am very sorry for your loss.
We met Slobodan at Safeway years ago and were always happy when we saw him there. It wasn’t because of the free cookie that he gave each of us but because he was a gentleman. We were sorry when he left and very sorry about your loss. It is also everyone’s loss because Slobodan is a role model for young and old alike. Please accept our thoughts and prayers for you, your family and for Slobodan.
I will miss Slobodan. I worked in the bakery at Safeway with him for a while. He is such a kind thoughtful and loving person, always asking how my family is and was especially thoughtful when my husband was working overseas. He loved watching my grandkids grow older and of course spoiled them with cookies when we stopped by the bakery. He was a man with such pride, and cancer didn’t take that away from him. A true gentleman until the end. May his family find peace and comfort during this time of great mourning. God speed and well done thy good and faithful servant!! Bless his family,until they are once again reunited.
I was so sad to learn of Slobodan’s passing. He was always friendly whenever he saw me in Safeway…always asked about the family! (and shared a cookie!)
