Gerald Russel Chiaramonte

Born: 11/9/1947—Gallup New Mexico

Died:  7/9/2015---Richland, WA

A good, kind father and husband left this earth on 7.9.2015 to join many family members in Heaven. Jerry was born to Mary and Joseph Chiaramonte on 11.9.1947 and raised in Gallup New Mexico.  He relished his role as father to his daughter Amy and Andy. He so looked forward to his daughter’s upcoming wedding to Mike Brown later in the summer. He and his wife, Rebecca have resided in Richland for over 26 years. He worked out in the area and was a project manager at Bechtel National where he was invested in his work and the work of others as together they found solutions and used their engineering minds in creative ways. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Parish and was married to wife Rebecca for 44 years. They met in a Catholic Singles Club and were married at St. Joseph’s Parish in Kennewick in 1971.  During his working years, as a chemical engineer, the family resided in California, Colorado and back in Richland.  He was a member of Fun & Fit Over Fifty Club, and for years enjoyed bike riding, hiking and meeting the wonderful people involved in the club activities.  He especially enjoyed playing golf for many summers with his Bechtel league. He adored his daughter, Amy, and would do anything to be there for her, and rejoiced in her accomplishments. The family of four was very tight knit.  Though Jerry had been sick for a few years, he worked hard at recovering his health and being involved in the activities he enjoyed.  He was a musician who enjoyed playing his clarinet in the CBC Band, and also enjoyed learning jazz piano from a local noted celebrity. His heart was always in the right place regarding others, having the gift of what it might be like to ‘walk a mile in another person’s shoes.’ A quiet, gentle person -- those who knew him well found a friend for life.  He leaves his sister Frances and brother-in-law Ray and other relatives who mourn his passing.  He will join his son Andy who died in 1995 and they have all of eternity to catch up. We love you, Jerry, and will miss you until we meet again.

Visitation with Rosary will be held at Events at Sunset in Richland on Monday, July 13, 2015. The visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm and the Rosary starting at 7:30pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King in Richland on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 3:00 pm, with a graveside inurnment to follow at Sunset Gardens in Richland at 5pm.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the building fund of Christ the King Catholic Parish, or to CBC Band through director Randy Hubbs, or to the charity of your choice.

  • To Jerry’s Family. My heart goes out to you. My heart is broken. Jerry was the finest boss I ever had. He is the measure of all my other bosses and a shining example of the person I want to be in my career. I have so many great “Jerry” stories; they all came flooding back when I heard of his passing. I will carry him in my heart always. I pray for God’s peace for your own hearts at this sad yet joyous time. He was an amazing man and a great friend. Until we all meet again, may God keep all those you loved and touched in his loving embrace.

  • My deepest condolences to Jerry’s family. I’ve known him all my life and attended school with him from kindergarten through high school. I was disappointed when I learned that he was not making it to the reunion a few weeks ago for I was looking forward to seeing him. My prayers and thoughts are with him and the family.

  • Gerry and I worked together when the PHMC was initiated and a fledgling company, SGN Eurosys (later COGEMA Engineering), was started to work “outside the fence.” Gerry was a quiet, trusting man and will be missed by those who worked with him and got to personally know him. Peace be with you Gerry!

  • Jerry and I met in Kindergarten at Cathedral and we went to school together for the next sixteen years all the way through UNM. Jerry always had the better GPA. We had great times especially getting our Eagle Scout recognition. We still hiked the wilderness in the San Pedro and hoped to do one more while we could. This was particularly sad as I learned at the reunion that another Eagle colleague Corky Rollie had also “Gone Home”. Both were great friends. I am very glad to have had the privilege of knowing these two great people.

  • We first met Jerry when he & Beccy lived in Long Beach CA, such a long time ago, But my best memories are from the visit my husband Don & I had when we visited Jerry & Beccy in 1996 while on our honeymoon. We stayed overnight and had a lovely visit… that was after being rescued at the antique store where our keys were locked in the car. As always, gracious and generous hosts. He was a special “cousin” and will be missed. My love to Beccy & Amy, Marian
