His father came out in 1942 to work for Hanford Patrol and later the city of Richland as a Patrol officer. John’s mother came out the following year with three sick children on the train with a lot of military personal that helped her with their care. The family lived briefly in White Bluffs, (Their father could not pick up from train station because he was working, so someone else took them to this farm not close to stores or anything else. You would not believe the conditions they lived in!) Next was Sunnyside, then Richland in a prefab and then an ‘A’ house before locating to property in West Richland in 1954, ultimately making his home on land purchased by his parents? His father, Paul and John built the house. John enlisted at the age of 17 in the US Marine Corps doing maneuvers and playing with the First Marine Band. One of his functions was to play Taps for ECO in Hawaii from 1958 until 1962 with an honorable discharge. He kept in touch with many service men he served with. He was always proud of his service and an advocate for others serving in the armed forces. John supported the VFW, NRA, Combat Veterans International and he was one of the first members and help build the Tri-Cities Shooting range. He was employed as a senior Lab Technician at the Hanford Site for 45 years. John enjoyed his work and the life-long friendships he formed at work, service and his friends from childhood until his death. His passions included fishing, hunting, archery, guns and golfing.

My name is Kathy,,,,John was my stepdad, but to me he was my dad…He adored my mother and accepted all of us. I wanted to at one time take his name and he gave me the “ok”…He was so very gentle, kind, witty, and funny as heck! If I ever felt sad all I needed to do was to go hang out with him then all was ok in my world. My mother would say,”can u guys keep it down please!”lol…If u ever knew him you would have been blessed. He touched my heart over and over. I always learned something new from him…I will always miss you JOHN, I love you…thankfully the last words to me was “I love you kathy” I do not want to say goodbye
