Royce Wingfield
Royce E Wingfield departed on Wednesday July 15 surrounded
by family and friends who love him.
Royce came to Richland in 1946 after serving six years in
the Navy, mostly in the Pacific, on a destroyer escorting carriers involved in
battles in Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Midway and many others.
He worked at Hanford for 37 years. He met Lina Jean Pollard,
who he married in 1947. They had two sons John and Jim.
Royce, born 1922, grew up on farms in Arkansas and Missouri
and picked cotton as a kid. He loved family and friends, actively hunting and
fishing while the kids were growing up. He was a wonderful Dad, Granddad,
Uncle, Friend, and Patriarch of the family clan. He loved to travel, especially
to visit relatives around the country and the world.
The family greatly appreciates the work of his doctors, all
the nurses and staff of Kadlec, P. C. M. and Hospice who made the final years,
months and days of his life comfortable and as easy as possible.
Royce is greatly missed by his family: sons Jim (wife Sandy) and John (wife Jane):
grandchildren; Trisha (Jeremy, Zach, Cassie), Jenny (Evan), Jeremy (Jing Jing),
Lianna (Billy), Connor (Odellia), Courtney Mills (Ramey, Addy and Lennon) and
children of his heart; Jan McCallum (Grant), Mike (Linda) and Billy (Patty)
Wingfield.
Thank God he was part of our lives. We bless him on his
way.
Graveside services will be held on July 31 at 1:00PM at Sunset Gardens in Richland (915 Bypass Highway).
My first contact with Royce was when he called to welcome me into the family after I proposed to his niece Janelle. He was always a supporter of family and always glad to see a relative. I value all the conversations we have had over the years and his perspectives on various subjects. I asked lots of questions and he was always willing to provide an answer. He was a great Uncle to my wife and a good friend to me. Thanks for the support Royce and all the good memories of our time together.
My wife and I are so very sorry to learn of Royce’s passing. He and his family were long time friends of my family. We enjoyed many wonderful times laughing and sharing together. We will always cherish the fond memories with them. Our deepest condolences to the family.
I first met Royce in May 1978 when I started work in the 200W power house at Hanford, Royce was the millwright there. I got to know his wife Jean through camping trips and visits to their cabin on Mill Creek in Walla Walla. I sure enjoyed working with Royce and spending time with him and Jean.
When Jean worked a night shift I would sometimes join him for dinner at their house.
He told many good stories!
We miss Unkle Dad Royce so much. He was so good to me as his 1st nephew growing up and then to me and Patty. I’m so blessed to have his name as my middle name.
We miss him so much, but know he is in a better place now, with Aunt Jean, his brothers and sister, and mom and granddad and grandma. We will see you in the after life Unkle Dad
