From Benton City, Washington | Born in Salina, Kansas
Carol Mefford-Doctor
Carol Lurline Mefford-Doctor, 98, of Benton City, WA, passed
away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 in Richland, WA. She was born on March 30, 1917
in Salina, KS to Wilma and Edd. Carol was raised in Fort Collins, CO.
Carol married George and with that marriage they traveled
due to his career in construction. They traveled all over the Western United
States, Peru, and South Africa.
Carol then married Paul Doctor. After many years, they too traveled; Australia, New Zealand and Europe. She then settled in Benton City for about 52 years and this is where she considered home. Carol was a part of the First Methodist Church, Eastern Star and the Lions.
She loved the community and people in Benton City. She was the bazaar chairman for Benton City Days; she also was active in promoting the need for Senior Housing in Benton City. Carol served on the Committee for a while after Paul passed away; she was most fulfilled to see the housing for seniors being built.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Laurel Blackaby; sister,
Betsy Robinson; grandson, Todd Blackaby; granddaughter, Paige Hinkle and
husband Ron; great-granddaughter, Carlee Hinkle-Zaleski and husband Henryk; and
her nephew, Patrick Robinson and wife Susan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma and Edd; brother, Verle; first husband, George Mefford; second husband, Paul Doctor; infant children, Linda, Georgia, and Gary Mefford and her granddaughter, Megan Blackaby.
A special thank you to Guardian Angel Homes and Heartlinks
Hospice of Sunnyside, WA, for their loving care during Carol’s time of need.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Einan’s at Sunset followed by a graveside service for Carol at Sunset Gardens, both located at 915 ByPass Hwy in Richland, WA.
I have not seen Carol for several years. I knew she and Agnes Johanson and they were very close friends and I have many memories of them. Carol was a very positive and active person. I wish had known she was at Guardian Angels and I would have stopped to see her. Very nice lady and she will be missed, God’s Blessings!
