Greg Warner
03/20/1947 — 09/20/2015
From Richland, WA | Born in Sioux City, IA
Greg Warner
“Greg”
Gregory T. Warner
1947-2015
Greg passed away Sept. 20th from an invasive strain of Fungal Pneumonia at the age of 68.
Coming from a long line of Iowans, Greg was strong in both body and mind. Well-liked and respected by all who knew him, Greg embodied a keen sense of morality, integrity, fairness, and responsibility.
During the Vietnam War, Greg served in the U.S. Navy and trained at the North Island Naval Base in San Diego, California. He was then stationed in Adak Island, Alaska, serving as an air traffic controller.
After the war, Greg went to college at San Diego State University where he completed a degree in civil engineering. He started his engineering career with a firm in Michigan where he designed and constructed a court house and a hospital. When this company sent him to Fermi Nuclear Plant on an engineering assignment, his interest in nuclear power plant construction began. One of the men he met at Fermi was a V.P. for Management Analysis Company (MAC) based in San Diego, California. MAC was strongly involved in sending engineering consultants to nuclear power plants being constructed throughout the U.S. and abroad. He was very impressed with Greg and recruited him to MAC in 1978. During the 1980’s, Greg was a project manager/consultant at several nuclear plants under construction in various states as well as Yugoslavia. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in several states.
In the 1990’s, MAC’s focus turned to nuclear remediation, and this led Greg to Richland and the Hanford site.
Greg was married to his second wife, Teri, for 38 years. They met in San Diego while he was attending college. He raced Hobie Catamarans and Teri often crewed for him in the regattas. At one time he was ranked 14th in the nation as a hobie cat competitor. Teri and Greg were married in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1977 and enjoyed a fulfilling and loving marriage.
Greg had two children by his first wife: Jeff Warner and Tracy
Peneda who both reside in San Diego, California. Jeff has five children
and Tracy has two. He enjoyed a special relationship with his grandchildren,
visiting often and employing skype and e-mail to stay connected and involved.
Greg’s wife Teri has a son, Eric Dysland, who lives in Pasco, Washington with
his wife Karlene, and their two children: Ryan and Makenzy. Greg is also
survived by two sisters: Ann Warner Nagy, who lives in Arcata, California and
Sue Andre, who lives in Santa Cruz, California.
Greg was an active member of the Richland Yacht Club where he served as Treasurer and Commodore. A life-long avid boater, Teri and Greg have a 23’ SeaRay, and have thoroughly enjoyed boating on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, as well as many lakes in the Pacific Northwest. He has also been a dedicated member of the Richland Rotary for many years. For the past several years he served as the Scholarship Committee Chairman.
Annually, the Richland Rotarian’s give several scholarships
to high school seniors, as well as five nursing school scholarships. He
loved meeting these outstanding young people over the years, and keeping track
of their subsequent studies and careers.
Greg was a animal lover, often opening his heart and home to them. He was enamored with Malamutes, acquiring his first one, Kiska, while stationed in Alaska. Greg and Teri went on to have four Malamute (Huskies) over the years. In the last 15 years, Greg rescued many cats and he is greatly missed by his four cats.
Greg - you were extremely kind, gentle, generous, and a devoted family man. Your family and friends will miss you more than you can imagine, but we are comforted in knowing you are reunited with loved ones, both animal and human.
Donations may be made in Greg’s memory to the Richland Rotary general charity, P.O. Box 37, Richland, WA 99352.
My prayers go out to the Greg Warner family. Greg was a great boss and friend. Some of my best memories were enjoying houseboat trips on the Cumberland with him , teri , Richeal`s and Clifford`s. There were many memorable times while working at the Marble Hill nuclear project. May God bless all.
So sorry to hear of your loss Teri.
I was saddened to hear about my old buddy Greg passing. I will forever miss his sleeveless sweaters he always wore when he greeted me on my trips to Richland as a fellow employee of MACTEC. I learned early of his love for dogs when we stopped at the grocery to pick up a steak…for the dog. I thought that was funny, but he was always smiling and helpful and made me always feel at ease on my trips to Richland, inviting me into his home for dinner and drinks, also…with the dog. I remember taking a short walk with him and the dog and one of the cats walking basically underneath the dog. I can only imagine the view when you see this ex navy guy slow walking his dog with a cat in tow.
Nothing but good memories of Greg. May you always smile from heaven above and bring the greatest of memories to your loved family and friends.
Teri,
We have been truly blessed to have both of you in our lives. Greg has left us with many smiles and memories. Please know if there is ever anything you need, from muscles too a listening ear, please call on us.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love you
Aaron & Nancy
Teri we are so very sorry to hear about Greg. Our neighborhood will never be the same without him. We will miss his big smile, his great laugh, and have fond memories of him walking his Josie and riding his bike by our house. He was a great man, the last ten years of having him as a neighbor will be cherished.
Please let me know if you could use a meal, or my photography services at his memorial. Love to you Teri.
