Olive (Ollie) Lillian Bryant Davis

Olive (Ollie) Lillian Bryant Davis was surrounded by loved ones when she went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.  Olive was born August 28, 1922 during a thunderstorm to Lawrence E. Bryant and Edith Brockett Bryant in Princeton, Indiana.  After her father passed away (she was 6 years old) her mother took her, her brother and step-sister to Lake Elsinore, California to be near relatives.  They later moved to Upland, California to be nearer to other relatives and where her mother would make a better living during The Depression.

She attended the local schools in Upland and Ontario, California graduating from Chaffey High School in 1940 and Chaffey Junior College in 1942.  She worked 3 years, during World War II at the Ontario Air Base in the Commissary in Ontario, California.  After that she worked 3 years at Cass’s Malt Shop in Upland where she met her husband Leonard.  She had the chance to go work in the Trona, California Unified School in Trona (150 miles north of San Bernardino, California—the last town before going into Death Valley).  Leonard followed her there and got employed at the American Potash and Chemical Company.  She was secretary to the Principal of the Elementary School.

She and Leonard eloped to Las Vegas and were married May 3, 1949.  They lived in Trona 7 ½ years and had 3 children (first one deceased at 3 months).  The next two were the first Caesarian babies born in that small hospital.  Leonard got a job at the Hanford Atomic Plant in Richland, Washington and they moved there in 1955 and have been there since.  They joined the V.F.W. to meet friends and became very active in it.  She was Fire Prevention Chairman for 3 years for the V.F.W.  She did many decorations for different special events like V.F.W’s 25th Anniversary.  She was active in the P.T.A’s at the different schools the children were in and she was an assistant Camp Fire Girl leader.  She worked for a short time at the first HAPO office in Uptown Richland.  She was an accomplished seamstress and was into lots of arts, crafts and jig-saw puzzles (other puzzles too).  In several of their homes they lived in she had beautiful gardens.  She and Leonard joined dance clubs and enjoyed many years dancing.  They won 2 dance contests back to back at the Pasco Red Lion.  They kept very active with all their young friends at Denny’s in Richland.  After Leonard retired in 1988 they did quite a bit of traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, step-sister, aunts, uncles, most cousins, grandson, and her infant son Leonard Thomas.  She is survived by her husband of 66 years Leonard, her son Tedd (Peggy) of Port Angeles, WA, grandson Darren Davis of Port Angeles, WA.  Daughter LeeAnn (McFadden) Davis of Richland, her grand-daughter Shannon McFadden, grand-daughter Molly McFadden Vendetti (Vincent), and great-grandson Trace Vendetti, nephew Dann Bryant of Carmichael, California and niece Jenny Mendenhall of Condon, Montana.  Member of Central United Protestant Church (C.U.P).

Graveside service will be at Einan’s Sunset Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. with reception following at Central Church in Richland, Washington.  Family and friends are invited to attend or sign the Einan’s Online Guest Book to share thoughts and memories.
