Shirley Oline McCullough
Shirley Oline McCullough, 85, passed from this life to the
next life on Friday, February 12, 2016 in Richland, WA. Shirley was born in Salt Lake City, UT the
first of six children of William Wallace Adams and Lucille (Sands) Adams. She lived her first 4-½ years in the same
house with her Grandparents, Oline and Marius Sands. She loved her grandparents dearly and even
when they moved out of their house she spent much of her childhood at their
home. She lived in Salt Lake City, UT
until she was 9 years old when they moved to Park City, Utah where her father
worked in the silver mines for the next 3 years. Shirley’s family returned to Salt Lake City
when she was 12 years old. Shirley
graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, UT in 1947.
Shirley met the love of her life, William Albert McCullough,
III (Bill) at a Church dance at the Sugar House Ward of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints. Shirley was
15 and Bill was 17. They spent much of
their courtship at dances and church gatherings. After courting for two years they exchanged
vows in the home of Bill’s parents on October 27, 1948 and were married for
time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 30, 1970. They have been happily married and
inseparable for 67 years and raised a wonderful family of six children in a
home always filled with abundant love and laughter.
Before Shirley married Bill, she worked at the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company in Salt Lake City, UT as a telephone operator. When her first baby, Kathy was born she quit work and provided a warm and loving home. After her youngest children were in Middle School, she worked for Pacific Rim displaying artificial flowers in retail outlets. She also worked for the U.S. Postal Service for several years delivering mail.
Shirley and Bill’s greatest passion was undoubtedly their
family. Many fun-filled hours were spent
playing games resulting in uncontrollable laughter. Every summer was spent enjoying the family
and the great outdoors of the beautiful Northwest. Many miles were traveled in a camper seeking
out new adventures. Because of their
passion, they instilled a love of nature to their children and also made it so
their children became best friends doing numerous camping trips, hiking,
boating & waterskiing on the Columbia River.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, 6 children Kathy Sansotta (Dom), Debra Bleazard (Karl), David McCullough (Ranae), Carol Pope (Jack), James McCullough (Linda), and Darla Sharp (Reed) as well as loving sons and daughters-in-law, 26 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ridgeline Chapel, 10376 Ridgeline Dr, Kennewick, WA 99336.
