Mary Louise Volkman

Mary Louise Volkman passed into eternal life on August 30, 2016, at the age of 94. She was born in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She grew up in a close knit family of many siblings. Even as a youngster, she was adventurous and loved reading books. Her mischievous smile and quick wit served her well as she grew older.

She met the love of her life, Walter Volkman in 1939, while he was working in the Civilian Conservation Corp. They were married on February 11, 1940, in Woodlake, Minnesota and raised a family of three children, Diane, Robert and Kenneth.

Mary was a talented seamstress making clothing for her grandchildren, intricate quilts and sewing for others as a home business. She loved to take extensive walks in the neighborhood and was on a bowling team.

Walter died on March 17, 1989. Mary decided to travel the world which lasted for many years. After Traveling, she moved to Richland and became active in the community as treasurer of the 55+Club, the Richland Senior Center. She was most proud of working as a member of the Kadlec Auxiliary for over 20 years.

Mary’s daughter, Diane Johnsen, her son Robert and her husband, Walter preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, John Adams, 2 sisters, Betty and Patty, her son Kenneth, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends.

There will be a memorial service at Einan’s Event Center on Friday September 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
