Wesley Enoch Norman

Wesley Enoch Norman was born in Bellingham, Washington, on May 25, 1918. His parents were Enoch Ashlem Norman and Esther Christine Smith Norman.  At the age of ten his family welcomed twins - a girl and a boy.  Wes graduated from Bellingham High School.

Wes joined the Army and spent four years serving in the South Pacific. Following his discharge he worked at a service station pumping gas and doing auto repair. While working at the service station he met his future wife, Evie.  They were married in 1951. They became a family of three as Evie was a war widow and had a daughter from that previous marriage.

In 1955 the family moved to Moses Lake, Washington, where Wes owned a service station called Third Avenue Service. He also sold cars. They moved to Richland in 1965 where he eventually worked for J. C. Penney in the maintenance department. After Wes retired he became a handyman. He helped people with all kinds of repairs.

Wes loved cars and driving.  He drove his wife, Evie, all over the state to her work assignments. He collected model cars. He finally had to quit driving just before he turned 96.  He also enjoyed photography and filled many albums with photos that he took. Dancing was something that Wes and Evie enjoyed together.  They traveled all over the region to dances in senior centers.

Wes and Evie enjoyed traveling and spent many happy hours visiting foreign countries and traveling in the US. They especially enjoyed travelling to Sweden where their ancestors had lived. They also loved spending time in Seaside, Oregon.

Service was something that Wes really enjoyed.  He was always on call to help anyone.  He volunteered his time driving a delivery truck weekly for his church to provide supplies to centers that distributed food to those in need.

Although Wes and Evie never had any children together, Wes was a loving and devoted husband to Evie and father to Connie. He is survived by his wife Evie, his sister, Dr. Ruth Norman, his daughter Connie and her husband Charles Sherrill, and his sister-in-law Jackie Oslin. He will be interred at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale, Washington.

Wes will be honored at a memorial service on Friday August 26th at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1720 Thayer Dr., in Richland, Washington.  All friends are invited.
