Heather Ann Duncan
Heather departed this earth in the early morning hours of October 3rd into the loving presence of her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Heather was born on September 1, 1958 to John and Laura Duncan and grew up on a farm in Benton City. As a girl and teenager she enjoyed reading, stamp & rock collecting and board games. Also Campfire Girls activities with many fond memories with family and friends. She was active with 4-H and FFA projects of all kinds as well as student leadership involvement. Heather especially enjoyed riding, driving and showing horses. Heather graduated from High School with honors and class valedictorian. From there she attended WSU and received her BS degree in 1979 in 3 years to graduate together with her new husband.
Heather worked in various office jobs at Prosser Pack, mail
service in Pasco, & AK Carney Co.
After divorce, Heather continued her education with a certificate in
social services and began working at Hanford where her talent as a technical
writer was discovered and blossomed. She
was sent to several special assignments in Kansas City, Michigan and Corvallis
Oregon.
Heather battled pulmonary failure in the spring of 2011 and
was unexpected to live but because of the many prayers, Heather recovered and
in fact jumped right back into life and activities in Benton City. Later that year, Heather was voted as the
Grand Marshall of Benton City and enjoyed the honor of riding in a horse drawn
carriage in the Benton City Daze Parade!
Heathers passion for the community of Benton City was well known as she
spent tireless hours donating time to meetings as well as multiple civic and
political events. Heather was a member
and past President of EDC & Chamber of Commerce. She was recently elected
on the Board of the Good Roads Association as well as the Director of the
Voters Forum in Benton City. She also
was the Secretary of the Faith Counsel of Benton City.
Heather is survived by mother Laura Duncan, sisters Tami (Mike) Amberg & Shawna Duncan as well as nephews Chris & Caleb Amberg, an aunt, uncles and cousins. Last, but not least, her beloved and faithful friend Riley. She was preceded in death by father, John Duncan & infant grandniece, Ryanna Amberg. Heather was a very kind and understanding person with much empathy for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
One of Heathers desires was to have a food pantry in each of
the Benton City schools and her friends in Benton City have started that in her
memory. Nonperishable food donation
baskets will be provided at the service this Friday. Friends and family of Heathers are invited to
her service on Friday October 14th at 1 pm at the Events at Sunset
in Richland. Refreshments and fellowship following the service. Graveside service will be around 4pm at
Evergreen Cemetery in Benton City.
