Nina Williamson
“Never be so busy as not to think of others.” ― Mother Teresa
On December 17, 2016, Heaven received Nina Rose (Vernon) Williamson and we lost a true example of what it means to be caring and generous beyond measure. Nina was born April 25, 1933 in the town of Eldon, Missouri to Aubra and Flossie Vernon. Growing up during the Great Depression taught Nina to appreciate the little things. She went on to live a life of giving to and caring for others that must have made the angels proud. Her five surviving children and all of Nina’s friends share numerous stories of how Nina would always be the first to arrive at someone’s house when help was needed--bringing food, flowers or helping hands. When situations were difficult and others felt uncomfortable or unsure of how to be of assistance, Nina would lead the way without hesitation.
Nina had a wonderful sense of humor which she shared with her late husband,
Jack Williamson during their 45 year marriage. She always maintained a playful
personality and enjoyed having a great time attending BINGO, playing cards or
going to the casino with friends and family. Above all, Nina enjoyed spending
time with those she loved, especially her family. Nina stretched the definition
of family by including many people who were not actually related. Her children
grew up with numerous “aunts” and “grandmas” that they later discovered were
not truly relatives, but were welcomed and treated just like family
nonetheless. Nina’s face always brightened in the presence of children and her
caring and playful nature was appreciated by all the little ones she knew,
especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
If you ever had a conversation with Nina, it more likely than not had a reference to one of her many family members living in the Tri-Cities or in her home state of Missouri. If you were in her home when this conversation occurred, she might have shown you one of her many treasures or antiques. These treasures may not have had any monetary value, but were of great value because of the story she had about the person who gave it to her, or made it for her, or about the memory it represented. These special memories and stories have now been handed down to her children and their families.
Nina is survived by her children Teresa Hall, Diana (Tim) Hollingshead, Roger (Beth) Williamson, Jim (Sherri) Williamson, Andrew (Tamara) Williamson, 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two siblings living in Missouri, Martha Bashore and David Vernon.
Nina will be honored at Events at Sunset today, Wednesday 12/21/16 4-7pm and Thursday 12/22/16 12-1:30pm for viewing. Graveside service will be Thursday 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a reception following at Knights of Columbus.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to “Peace of Mind” home and Hospice for their loving care giving.
