Sybil Marguerite (Berry) Mosley April 12, 1923 – December 25, 2016
A healthy baby girl was born in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to Fred T Berry and Carrie Mary Berry of Kennewick on April 12, 1923. They named her Sybil Marguerite. From that day forward Sybil never acknowledged the name Marguerite, she was just Sybil! Sybil attended grade school in Kennewick and enjoyed telling stories of 1920’s Kennewick. She often told the story of walking to Washington Hardware as a child having been given a dime to buy bread. She lost the dime when it dropped in the dirt road now called Kennewick Ave. She is still looking for that dime.
Fred and Carrie moved their family to Vale, Oregon where Sybil finished school. After graduating from Vale Union High School in June 1941, Mom moved to Portland, Oregon and started office work as a finance clerk. A member of the greatest generation Mom married LTjg Dana ‘Carl’ Mosley, USN on March 8th 1943. Mom and Dad were married over 56 years until Carl passed in 1999. She followed him to Corpus Christi, TX Naval Air Station where their first of four children was born, a daughter Dana Lee, followed by another daughter Vicki Ann, Son John David and the youngest daughter Wanda Sue. Mom was the matriarch of the family; always remembering your birthday and generously giving of her time to you, Mom loved family and treated friends like family.
Sybil and Carl moved to Richland in 1954. Mom found work for the City of Richland in the Finance Department, retiring in 1982. She and Carl then spent the next two years RVing across the country, settling in Sky Valley outside of Palm Springs, CA each winter until they sold the RV and bought a park model in Sky Valley resort. So many happy memories visiting Mom, Dad and their extended snowbird friends each winter, cherished memories.
Sybil was a strong, independent woman. She lived her life to the fullest, always making the best of things and the best of families. Mom welcomed her daughters’ husbands and her sons’ bride to the family as her own children. Mom’s 8 grandchildren gave her 12 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way! These three new babies will have the best guardian angel ever!
In Sybil style, Mom left this world with flair. Passing in to the loving hands of our savior early on the day of his birth! Mom always loved a party! Mom was surrounded by her loving extended family on the day of her death, special day, loving memories, and Mom’s last final gift to us. We, as a family, would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Chaplaincy Hospice, (Tehea, Lisa, Kristi) and the entire staff whose compassion and caring was comforting to Mom and us during these last few weeks. Also to the staff at the Manor Canyon Lakes, especially to Judy, Todd, Carla, Nicole and I’m sorry if I didn’t mention your name, the last few days are a blur. To Father Dan, thank you for giving Mom the Last Rights on Christmas Eve, you gave her and us peace and closure.
Sybil Marguerite (Berry) Mosley was preceded in death by her parents, Fred T and Catherine (Smead) Berry, her sister Crystal (Berry) Clasen (Ralph deceased) and her husband Dana Carl Mosley. She is survived by her Brother Fred T Berry, Jr (Dolores), Ontario, CA, her children Dana Mosley Warford (Charles) Seattle, Vicki Mosley Cole (John) West Richland, John David Mosley (Marie) Kennewick and Wanda Mosley Sevigny (Greg) Richland. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tonya Warford Miller (husband Doug, children Kate, Cole), Chad David Warford (wife Lisa, children Drew, Hogan, Karly), John Carl Cole (wife Rachel, children John, Anne), Don Cole (wife Gloria, children Kevin, Sabrina), Melanie Mosley Barness (Nathan and twins boys arriving April 2017), Marcus Edward Mosley, Ryan Sevigny (wife Carin, child Gracie), Nikki Sevigny Rogers (husband Rob, children Rylee, Braden and baby girl arriving May 2017). And lots and lots of extended family, cousins and friends we always called our cousins but really we aren’t related. Who knew?
