Billy Neill
Billy Gene Neill passed away on January 18, 2017. He was born on September 10, 1923 to Nola
and Clarence Neill in Bozier City, LA.
Dad enjoyed the outdoor life of the Columbia Basin; he had a
quick wit and a work ethic that paralleled the best of men.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force during WW II (stationed
in Germany), he followed his parents to Richland, WA where he worked for forty
plus years on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Half his career was spent
working for the Hanford Patrol (story goes he never gave a ticket!). The other half as a pipefitter. In addition, he owned and operated Neill
Plumbing out of the oversized garage he built.
After spending a day working, he would eat dinner (which Mom served
promptly at 5:00) and it was off to fix the plumbing in one of the alphabet
homes. Our parents met and married in
1946 with a shared goal of “family first”.
As adults, we certainly understand and appreciate the sacrifices made.
Street smarts and practical application served him well
throughout life. His ability to find
humor was an asset. Dad understood life
and right from wrong, which made his statements even more meaningful. To this day, many of his sons’ childhood
friends can still reminisce a story or two.
Dad spent many a day hunting pheasants or on the banks of
the Columbia River fishing. He taught
his kids (at an early age) how to handle a shotgun and where to find the best
fishing spots.
Most of all, he cherished his family. Mom and he spent many hours on the bleachers
watching their boys’ sporting events.
They were Richland Bomber fans to the end.
He is survived by sons:
Rick (Jean) of Hot Springs, AR; Phil (Pam) of Richland; Steve (Karen) of
Richland; Mike of Richland. He is also
survived by grandchildren: Ricky, David,
Brian, Kevin, Tim, Megan, Madison and Brandon, as well as 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and
his beloved wife, Madlyn.
At his request, there will be no service. Dad, catch you on the other side. God Bless.
