Scott was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. After the Greer family traveled for a few years, they settled in Boardman, Oregon, where Scott met his high school sweetheart, Nancy. After graduating from Riverside High, Scott and Nancy started their family in Portland, Oregon. Then they moved to the Seattle area where he started his glazier apprenticeship. They have resided in West Richland, Washington, for the last seven years. Scott loved his children and their births were his proudest moments. For the last decade, he took great pride and joy in his professional career as a commercial window glazier, and had made many friends in the business. Scott served his country proudly and honorably in the National Guard for 15 years, including two tours to Afghanistan in 2005 and 2010. Scott leaves a lasting impression that has touched many. He will be extremely missed.

On Tuesday morning, Scott completed a decision. Where
there is pain and confusion, despair and doubt, we long for the end to
suffering. For some, like Scott, life no longer has any choices but one. Life
left scars that Scott could not find the inner resources to heal. The inner
pain was too great – pain that he had contained within himself for years, pain
that often lashed out in anger, mostly at himself. Scott chose to end the
suffering for himself. The mind was exhausted, the heart frightened, and the
end taken. The suffering does not end, however, for those who have loved and
cared for him. Friends and family are left with feelings of shock, betrayal,
anger, sadness, and – in time – compassion and forgiveness. Those who are left
ask and continue to ask, “What could I have done? Why didn’t I see it?”
No one knows. And nothing will bring him back.
No one is responsible for Scott’s choice but Scott.
Nancy,
You probably don’t remember me from church but my heart goes out to you and your children. I am deeply saddened and wish there was something I could do to help.
Our hearts ache for you and your sweet family. We pray for peace to come swiftly and for you to feel the love of those around you.
