Florence Hossfeld

Florence Carol Hossfeld

Florence Hossfeld, 96, passed away on August 18, 2017.  Age claimed her body but heaven claimed her soul.  Florence was born December 23, 1920, to Pete (Emery) and Mabel Gee in Rapelje, Montana.   She grew up on the farm with her 4 brothers: George, Elmer, Vick, and Lawrence.  She played girls basketball for Rapelje High School and graduated in 1938.

Florence married Kenneth Hossfeld that same year.  They began their adventure of turning a little into enough, creating a warm welcoming home and raising kids.  Time on the farm ended with Kenneth’s stroke in 1965, forcing a move to Billings.  Florence did office work for a short time but eventually became a full time caretaker for her elderly mom and her husband.  In 1998, Florence and Kenneth moved to Kennewick to be near their daughters.  Florence spent her final 2 years at Regency Canyon Lakes buzzing the hall in her electric wheelchair and building friendships with the staff.

Some of her favorite things were holidays with family, grand kids, babies, flowers, sewing, Werthers and gum drops, playing cards and making puzzles, perfecting marble fudge, helping others and Jesus.  She spent 25 years caring for her husband.

Painful seasons of her life included the passing of her 9 year old son Gary, her parents, her husband of 60 years, her 4 brothers, her grand-daughter Connie, and her adult son Dennis (Wink).

Everyone who had time with Florence was blessed with her caring spirit and kind heart.  She worked hard and had the ability to stay busy, even at 96.  Celebrating and honoring Florence’s life will be carried on through her family: son Ron Hossfeld (Linda), daughter Carol Stewart (Jack), daughter Dawn West (Dale) and daughter-in-law Jeanette Hossfeld, her 12 grand-children, 24 great grand-children, and 1 great great grand-daughter.

Florence’s life taught us how to raise a family, to love others, to work hard, and to never quit-no matter how hard it gets.  She believed in God’s promises of eternal life.  As her family we want to extend a special thank you to the staff of Regency Canyon Lakes who made a nursing facility a home of caring people.

In her memory, consider planting a flower to remind you of her and to bless others with its beauty.  A memorial service will be held in Florence’s honor at South Hills Church, 3700 W 27th Avenue, Kennewick, WA on August 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow.
