Karl Anderson
Karl Alfred Anderson, age 70, died peacefully at home October 8, 2017, surrounded by his beloved wife, Barbara, and loved ones, after a valiant battle with prostate cancer. He was born December 13, 1946 to Lawrence Alfred and Edna Elliott Anderson in Flint, Michigan. He married Jacqueline Stalsberg in 1964 and from this union, he had five children. Without formal education, he learned the skills of an electrical and piping designer, working in the chemical, aeronautics, oil, and nuclear industries. His favorite job was working at Prudhoe Bay on the Alaska North Slope. In 1969, in Midland, Michigan, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Karl enjoyed the outdoors, especially salmon fishing and gold mining, and he had a special ability to capture the earth’s beauty in his painting. He gladly shared with others his knowledge of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, family history, self-reliance, gardening smarter, rocks and minerals, The Book of Mormon archaeology, and the US Constitution. He served in his church in many capacities but his most cherished calling was as an ordinance worker in the LDS Columbia River Washington Temple.
In 1993, Karl married the love of his life, Barbara Hunsaker Edler Anderson, and their marriage was solemnized for eternity in the LDS Portland Oregon Temple in August 1999. From this marriage, he inherited five wonderful children and in time, precious grandchildren. He also received brothers and sisters, when he had always been an only child and a father after many years, since he was only 19 when his father died. He loved to come home and feel the safety, peace, and Christ-like love that was in his home. Karl especially enjoyed the warmth and family togetherness of the holiday season and for many years he competed with Clark Griswold when it came to decorating his home for Christmas.
Karl was tremendously proud of his family and their many accomplishments. As his cancer progressed, and as his condition weakened, Karl purchased a Playstation 4 game system so that he could continue to enjoy time playing with his grandchildren. He loved them dearly. He is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion, Barbara; his children, Denise (Royce) Benham; Sean (Sheri) Edler; Andrew (Janette) Edler; Justin Edler; Britton (Lisa) Edler; Karl (Kim) Anderson, Jr.; Sherry Anderson; Kristel Andrews; Trisha Anderson; Aaron Anderson, 24 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Peter Hunsaker; in-laws, Debra Wynn, LuAnn (Kenny) Nelson; John (Julie) Hunsaker; Tom (Laura) Hunsaker; Lisa (Alex) Bedoya, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother- in-law Beverly Hunsaker, brothers-in-law, Michael Hunsaker and Paul Wynn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 11:00 am in the LDS Paradise Chapel (4500 Maple Lane, West Richland, WA) with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am. There will be a viewing Friday, October 13, 6-7:30 pm, at Einan’s Chapel (915 Bypass Highway, Richland, WA). The family extends a special thank you to dear friend, Dr. James Hazel, Dr. Mario Chenal and the nurses at North Star Lodge, members of the LDS Desert Hills Ward, the young men who brought the sacrament each Sunday, Karl’s co-workers at Atkins, and the Hospice Tri-City Chaplaincy nurses.
