Freda Helen Tollbom
July 14, 1936|January 5, 2018
Freda was born to Ivan and Edith Weeks in Idaho Falls, Idaho on July 14, 1936. She grew up with two brothers and a sister on the family ranch in Swan Valley, Idaho.
Freda had a love of music and began playing the tenor saxophone and piano in High School. This carried over into adulthood when she sang, played the piano and organ at church. Along with music she loved people and often showed this through her fantastic cooking. She also enjoyed growing roses and begonias as well as traveling to scenic areas. After here children were grown, Freda earned master’s degree in Nursing from WSU and helped start the first NICU at Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
Her greatest passion was teaching the Bible. She showed this by being a Precepts Bible study leader for decades. In her later years, many women prisoners whom she visited came to know Christ.
She is survived by her husband Laroy Tollbom, sons; Cullen Tollbom and Bruce Tollbom and daughter; Trenna Tollbom. She was preceded in death by her parents Ivan and Edith Weeks, brothers; Renell Weeks and Clinton Weeks, and sister Karma Kelsey.

After my Dad passed away in 2014, my Mom moved to the retirement side of the dining room at Riverton. That is when and where I would visit, almost daily, to eat with my Mom and share the table with Freda and Roy and get to know them. I brought my grandson Hudson, most days. He too had a sweet connection with Freda and Roy. We had so many fun conversations, our laughter and playfulness disturbing others at times. But the most fun we had was when the dining room hosted a band and we could all sing along, mostly hymns and patriotic songs. We all sang loud and proud, but truly, the Tollbom’s knew every line and every chorus. Freda would harmonize sometimes, sometimes Roy. It was a beautiful experience to be amidst this source of true joy.
Irving Berlin said “The song is ended but the melody lingers on”. Freda carries the melody now.

I’m so sorry we aren’t in town so I am unable to be at Freda’s Memorial to honor her.
Freda and I worked together during my Kadlec career. I learned from her, I cried with her, I laughed with her and she always tried to do what was best for her patients. I’m sure as a wife, mother, grandmother she always tried to be there for all of you.
With deepest sympathy….
You’re home now Freda Girl…we are going to miss you.
