John “Buster” Perry
John R. Buster Perry age 97 passed away January 16, 2018 in Richland, Washington. Was born in Northville, South Dakota May 6, 1920 to John and Gale Perry. At age 5 his family moved to Midwest, Wyoming. His father was employed at the Salt Creek oil field. Raising 6 children, all attending their school at Midwest. Buster worked at several Ranches and farms during the summer months in Sheridan and Gillette area, this is where he met his wife to be Dorothy M. Haumann. They were married December 24, 1938. To this union 2 sons were born J. Richard Perry, and Bruce E. Perry. Both sons attended grade school in Richland, Washington and graduating from Richland High.
Buster after spending time in the Navy, brought his family to Richland in 1946. Buster was employed on the Hanford Project with General Electric. He worked as a lineman until 1958. When Richland became incorporated he went to work for the City of Richland as a lineman until his retirement in 1975. Buster and Dorothy have maintained their home in Richland for 72 years.
A U. S. Navy Veteran serving in the South Pacific Theater W.W. II. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 7952 Richland, Wa. He also was a member of IBEW Local 77 and 57 since 1941. A member of Project Honor Guard under the direction of Lt. Commander Roy Carriker U.S.N. retired. A longtime member of the Columbia Basin Racquet Club, member of Buckskin Golf Club. Him and Dorothy square danced for several years with Prairy Shufflers. He enjoyed many years with family and friends hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, with family and friends on the Columbia River. Loved attending sons and grandsons sporting events, was a true Bombers fan. Enjoyed his motor home and trips to Wyoming each summer attending Midwest reunions.
Buster is survived by sons J. Richard of Richland, WA and Bruce Perry of Helena, Montana, grandchildren Jon, Rod, and BJ, great grandchildren Chelsie, Nathan, Allison, Rodney Jr., Chase, Zane, Gabriel, Michael, Brandy, Jack, Maddex and Bentley.
Proceeded in death by his parents John and Gale, His wife Dorothy of 70 years, Brother Don, Sisters Alice, Helen, and Joyce, granddaughter Kim and grandson Todd.
Graveside service will be held Friday January 19, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens Veterans Plaza with Navy Military Honors and V. F. W. Post 12018. Gathering will take place at the Event Center at Sunset Gardens 915 Bypass Highway, Richland WA. In lieu of flowers donations to ones choice in Busters name.
