David Doremus, Sr.

David Joseph Doremus, Sr. went home Feb 15, 2018 to our Lord and Savior with his son William and daughter Doris by his side. David was born in Union Gap, WA behind a donut shop on January 5, 1936 to the proud parents of William Joseph Doremus and Ruby Viola Fisher. 

David enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the age of 17, serving 7yrs in the USMC including time in the Korean War. He then enlisted into the US Navy serving in the Vietnam War and retiring after 23yrs. 

David was joined in marriage with Arlene Payne and the two of them had three children; Darlene Suzanne Thompson (Russell), Doris Lisa Thompson (Duane) and David Joseph Doremus (Chris).

He then married Charlotte Crawford Shoop to whom they had a son William Joseph Doremus, II (Renyel). 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Doremus and Ruby Viola Fisher; sister, Lillian Hassey; brother, Don Elliott; brother, William Holly Doremus and sister, Cleo Belmont. 


David is survived by his sister, Francis LaVonne Jackson of Tiger, OR; daughters: Darlene and Doris Thompson; sons: David and William Doremus. He also survived by his 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

David was a proud American. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was active in the local Lions Club, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Post 115 in Benton City, WA.

He was always willing to lend a hand when anyone was in need and he loved the times that he spent either fishing or panning for gold in Arizona with is good friend Jose Acob.

David would request that you don’t grieve over him, but remember the times that you shared together. He loved being the class clown and the life of the party. David loved the Asian Culture and loved spending time with his family and friends along with his follow soldiers of the Armed Forces and their families. 

David would ask that you continue to pray for his family and friends, along with his fellow soldiers of the Armed Forces and their families.
