He graduated from Columbia High School in 1956 as the student body president. He attended Ricks College for two years and then went to Brigham Young University where he played baseball and earned his degree in Industrial Management. He married Dee Brimhall in 1961; they had four children and were later divorced. Jerry married Lee Carl in 1980. He was employed by General Electric at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation until 1968. One highlight of his career was in 1984 when as the start-up engineer at WNP-2 (known today as the Columbia Generating Station) the plant entered commercial operation and started producing electricity. Jerry enjoyed an active life that included swimming, boating, waterskiing, snow skiing, basketball, volleyball, and traveling. In his retirement years, he continued to enjoy sports as a spectator and loved being outdoors gardening and doing yard work.
