Nellie Allene Pollard Patty, 96 years old
Nellie Patty was born April 21, 1922 in Knoxville, TN to Henry Richard and Mayme Gertrude (Jones) Pollard. Nellie was the fourth of seven children.
Her memories as a child were of singing harmony around a piano with her family, living in the Great Smokey Mountains during the Depression, moving 15 times during her childhood, loving her family and having her finger bitten by a raccoon.
She played basketball on the Porter High School girls’ basketball team holding a record for most points in a game.
Nellie married Mayford Douglas Patty January 31, 1941 and raised two daughters; Linda Judd and Judy Michalek. They moved to North Richland in 1951. Nellie worked for the USPS at North Richland and Angus Village. When a house was available the family moved into a “B” house in Richland. Her husband and father built a home in Kennewick where she lived for 56 years. She was a teacher’s aide at Vista Elementary; she was a gifted and loving teacher to her grandchildren, students and neighborhood children.
Nellie was a Mall-Walker and received many awards for walking achievements.
Nellie and Mayford enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and games with friends. Nellie loved writing poetry about events in her life. Mayford passed away in 1983. Years later she was fortunate to meet Dale Fauver and spent 11 years traveling in the winter and living in the Tri-Cities in the summer. Her last two and half years were spent at Fieldstone Memory Care.
Nellie is preceded in death by her mother, Mayme Pollard; father Henry Richard Pollard; husband, Mayford Patty; sisters, Odella Pollard, Mildred Milligan, Amilea Teffeteller; brothers, Henry and James Pollard.
Nellie is survived by her daughters: Linda Judd and Judy Michalek; granddaughters: Angela Roberts, Lisa Dross Browning; grandsons: Kevin Judd and Gregory Judd. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Gabriel Judd, Sophie Troya, Madeline Judd, Kaitlin Judd, Samantha Dross, Joshua Dross and Mitchell Dross.
A family Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Gardens at 11:00am, Monday, May 21, 2018.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Alzheimer's research.
