Corwena “Coey” Miller
05/17/1961 — 06/18/2018
From Benton City, WA | Born in Pasco, WA
Corwena “Coey” Miller
Corwena "Coey" Ann Miller was born in Pasco, WA on May 17, 1961 and joined the Lord again just a few weeks after her 57th birthday on Monday, June 18, 2018.
In her short 57 years, Coey blessed the lives of everyone she touched. During her childhood, she lived in Pasco, Walla Walla, and Orofino, ID. She was a quiet and thoughtful child who enjoyed playing the piano and spending a summer afternoon eating tomatoes.
In her twenties, she lived in California where she worked as a bartender who was known for her quick wit and sharp humor. Always looking out for her friends, Coey was notorious for playing pranks on regular customers to get them into a cab and rather than letting them drive home after a few too many drinks.
At 29, she returned to the Tri-Cities to be closer to her mother and raise her only daughter, Ashley. Coey was a resourceful and determined mom who worked tirelessly to save for Ashley to attend college.
Coey was a passionate champion for young children and families. During her 25-year career as a pre-school teacher and family advocate – first with Head Start, and later at Bright Horizons – Coey undoubtedly served many thousands of children and families throughout the Tri-Cities area.
She taught Ashley the meaning of dedication and persistence by attending night classes for more than ten years to earn her GED and Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Coey and Ashley spent weekends camping with their friends Danny, George, Virginia, Kathie, and Patty. They enjoyed doing puzzles and baking candy in the winter; yardwork and swimming in the summer; and they frequently took up arts and crafts hobbies. She was an accomplished pool player on the Happy Days pool league with her mother Mert, who was never quite able to match Coey's talent!
Coey never married, but was always surround by friends and loved ones. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Ross; her great aunt Millie and uncle Bob; and her stepfather Jim. Coey is survived by her mother Mert, daughter Ashley, close friends Marie DeSoto, Mary and Randy Peterson, her beloved colleagues at Head Start and Bright Horizons, and the many thousands of children whose lives she touched over the years.
Services will be held this Sunday, June 24 at 3:00 P.M. at Events at Sunset in Richland, WA. All who knew Coey are encouraged to attend and share their stories. Flowers can be sent to Einan's at Sunset, 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, WA 99352.
