KEITH
MCMULLIN
It is with great sadness that the family of Keith McMullin announces
his passing, on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the age of 90 years. Keith will be
lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Janice and children, Steve (Sue),
Carol, Ken, Bobbie (David), and Shelleen (Randy). Keith was loved and adored by his eleven
grandchildren, Scott, Danny, Julie, Becky, Mike, Kim, Jon, Brianna, Tyler,
Chelsi, and Kelsey and 14 great grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren. He was predeceased by his
parents Clyde McMullin and Ethyl Gill and six siblings, Clayton, Charles,
Marjorie, Dorothy, Donald, and Roger.
Keith was born on July 22, 1927 in Valley, WA. He spent his early years in the Spokane area and began working as a mechanic at the age of 15. He spent 20 years working at City Ramp garage as a service manager until he began to lose his vision. Blindness brought him to a rehabilitation and training program through the Washington State Services for the Blind in Seattle. During this training Keith honed his attitude of serving others and belief that “you can do anything if you put your mind to it”. After completing the rehabilitation and cafeteria management program, he spent a year handling vacation relief at various concession stands around the state, including helping to open a stand at City Hall in Spokane. Although he trained for cafeteria management, when the opportunity for the Richland stand came up he took it. He spent more than 32 years at the Federal Building concession stand building a good rapport with the customers in the building. He provided a place for people to go when they were frustrated, needed a sounding board or just someone to listen as they picked up their afternoon.
Keith served for 25 years on the Washington Governor’s committee for the blind. He was instrumental in the writing of the WAC (Washington Administrative Code) for the blind vending stands. He was also influential in creating other State Programs for the blind.
He met Jan, his wife and love of his life, at the Richland stand when she was one of his first customers. Keith and Jan married June 28, 1969.
Keith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a great love for serving and teaching those around him.
Keith practiced his attitude of “he could do anything and would try everything” by teaching family and friends to water ski, knee boarding with his children, teaching his children to drive boats and vehicles, traveling across the country by himself and with family, fishing, running track with the kids, biking with the kids and friends and bowling and dancing with his wife.
Keith was a kind and loving husband, devoted father, caring and generous friend and grandfather.
A Funeral Service in memory of Keith will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the Richland Stake Center, 1720 Thayer Drive, Richland. There will be no viewing or graveside services. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Keith McMullin to Edith Bishel for the Blind at 628 N Arthur St, Kennewick, WA 99336.
