Alice Jean Rhodes

Alice Jean Men-Muir Rhodes, aged 85, passed away on July 11, 2024, along with her husband David Wallace Rhodes, aged 90, in their home in Richland, Washington, due to prolonged heat exposure.

Alice was born on November 30,1938, in Spokane, Washington to Clarence Men-Muir and Dorothy Sage Men-Muir.
Alice graduated from Coleville High School in 1957 and then attended Pacific Lutheran University for a short period of time, taking general course studies.

Alice then decided to see the world and became a stewardess for Northwest Orient, flying with them for several years in the early 1960s. Her main route was from Anchorage to Tokyo, Japan.
She then married Frank Montagnino in 1966 in Florida. The couple had one child, Marc F. Montagnino, born in February 1967.  The marriage ended not long after Marc was born.

She went on to earn a Teaching Certificate/BA from Eastern Washington University in 1969. And she started her career as a teacher in Deer Park, Washington, and went on to work for Naches School District for nearly 40 years to various elementary school grades 1 through 6, and Title One Reading. Simultaneously, she purchased a house and raised her son, Marc, in the nearby town of Selah, WA.

Alice was fortunate to have a second chance at love later in life and married David Rhodes on February 11th,1995. Through Dave she gained a much larger extended family, including two stepsons, Mark and David, and even grandchildren, Caitlyn Kimsey, Carlee Rhodes and Chris Rhodes whom she enjoyed very much.

Alice was an active person throughout her life, enjoying many outdoor hobbies such as bicycling, cross-country skiing, hiking and golfing.  She and Dave were also season ticket holders to the local hockey team, the “Tri-City Americans” and hosted players from other teams when they came to the Tri-Cities for hockey matches.

She was also involved in many charities and donated throughout her life to many worthy causes such as Chief Joseph Indian School, St. Labre Indian School, March of Dimes, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, local police and firefighter funds as well as Habitat for Humanity and other charities.

Alice is survived by her sister, Margaret Men-Muir Romdall, her son, Marc Montagnino, her two stepsons, David and Mark Rhodes, grandchildren Caitlyn Kimsey, Carlee Rhodes and Chris Rhodes as well as many former students, colleagues and friends over the years.  She will be missed!
