William “Bill” Bartow Wolfe

Beloved son of Alexander Emanuel Wolfe and Eunice Elizabeth Ragsdale Wolfe

Brother of Alexander Campbell (Sandy) Wolfe and Nancy Wolfe Duffy

“Fun” Uncle of many nieces and nephews whom he adored

Proud father of Timothy Alexander Wolfe, Stephen Douglas Wolfe Sr., Rebecca Lynn Wolfe and Steve’s wife Bree Ann Nielsen Wolfe

Doting “GrandDad” of Stephen Douglas Wolfe Jr. and Reagan Williamina Wolfe

Beloved husband of Dianne Patricia Leith Wolfe, his Canadian bride, whom he met while representing the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in Canada, assisting with the startup of Canada’s first full scale nuclear power reactor, Douglas Point. He later represented the USAEC in Europe at Interatom in Germany, for three years.  He had a brilliant, inquisitive mind and became an expert on nuclear reactors worldwide. He was an employee of Atomics International in Canoga Park, CA and worked at several nuclear research facilities, including Los Alamos, NM, the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho Falls and Chalk River Labs in Canada. He worked at the Hanford Site in Richland WA from Feb 1984 until he retired in December of 1988. After retiring, he began expanding on the genealogy his mother, the daughter of a Georgia Baptist minister, had done on her side of the family and Bill’s paternal grandmother’s Scottish roots. He set about exploring his father’s Jewish roots; years of research that led to Eastern Europe and eventually connecting with many “newly discovered” living relatives. He and Dianne would often work on the genealogy of friends and neighbors, often uncovering remarkable connections and coincidences.

As a young man Bill lived in Norfolk, NE and Fort Dodge, IA. He worked the summer after graduating high school as a surveyor at the Olympus Dam in Estes Park, CO.  He loved Colorado and Idaho and over the years became an accomplished mountain climber. He received both his bachelor’s degree in general engineering and his master’s degree in nuclear engineering, from Iowa State University. He was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity at I.S.U and treasured those friendships and memories throughout his life.  He served in the US Air Force in Korea before beginning his career in nuclear engineering. He remained in the Air Force Reserves until he retired, Captain. His family and friends were important to him. His many friendships remained steadfast throughout his life.  He was a true gentleman. He made friends wherever he went and was quite proud of the fact that he was made an honorary member of the Canadian Legion while he was working at Douglas Point. He was honored on Sept. 5, 2025 at Einan’s Sunset Gardens in Richland by friends and family, the US Air Force flag ceremony and a salute by members of the Richland branch of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.
