Rodney Richard Slagle

In remembrance of Rodney Slagle born on June 16, 1952 and passed away on January 31, 2025. My “big and strong brother” as he was affectionately known as in our family was the third oldest in a large blended family of seven kids. He was born in North Bend, Oregon to Jennie and Frank Slagle. After his dad died his mom remarried and he, his sister and mom settled down in Richland, Washington. He then attended Spalding Elementary, Carmichael Junior High and Columbia High School (now Richland High) where he participated in wrestling and became a good swimmer as he often spent his summer afternoons swimming with his siblings at George Prout Pool. He also loved to read and when he wasn’t at the pool he spent much of his time at the Richland Library. After graduating from high school he went on to serve in the Navy during the Vietnam War and later became a Cook at Public Health Hospital in Seattle, WA. He then married and bought a house in Kent, WA. However some time later he found himself to be divorced so he returned to the Tri-Cities and settled down in Kennewick near his sister and nieces. He passed away at 72 years old of a heart attack. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Richard Slagle, Jennie Lee Payne, his stepfather Earnest Robert Payne, his sister Kathryn Bernice Slagle, and his brother Milton Reed Payne. He was survived by his siblings, Nancy Slagle, Donna Payne, Doug (Payne) Noblehorse, Mary Ann (Payne) McAllister and Carmella Payne. Rest in peace my dear brother… you were very much loved!

  • Good journeys, Rodney. I will forever remember you and will never forget that it was you that introduced me to my lifelong passion and mission, the study of astrology, an interest we shared. Keep Milton company until the day I join the two of you.
