Gene Scott Turner
Gene “Scott” Turner passed away on May 15, 2025, in Richland, Washington, surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Richland, Scott was known for his steady presence, practical wisdom, quick wit, and deep love for the outdoors.
Born on November 3, 1954, Scott grew up in Richland and graduated from Richland High School in 1973. After high school, he attended college, where he met Michelle-the woman who would become his wife and life partner for nearly 48 years. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising three children: Melissa, Megan, and Jacob.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Shirley Turner. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his children, Melissa, Megan (Chris), and Jacob (Andrea); his grandchildren, Jaxson (Elizabeth), Gavin (Ashlyn), and Lily; his great-granddaughter, Hainsley; his brother, Zane (Kathy) Turner; his nephew, Jarrod, and niece, Hailey; as well as extended family members whom he loved dearly.
Scott’s working life began as a pipe fitter, a trade he genuinely enjoyed and often spoke about with pride. He eventually found his place at the Hanford site, where he worked for more than three decades. Scott took great satisfaction in a job well done and was respected by those who worked alongside him.
Outside of work, Scott found his true joy in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who rarely missed a morning in the field or on the water. Some of his favorite memories came from crisp fall mornings spent with friends hunting pheasants, with his loyal hunting dog, Jack, faithfully by his side. The bond between Scott and Jack was something special-they were a team through and through.
Scott’s passion for hunting and adventure also took him far from home, including not one but two unforgettable African safaris with close friends. Whether near or far, Scott felt most at peace when surrounded by nature, sharing stories, and laughing with the people he loved.
He also cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, a niece and nephew and great-granddaughter-always quick with a smile and a story. His quiet strength, humor, and warm heart left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In Lieu of flowers please send donations to the Tri-City Animal Shelter at: 1311 S 18th Ave. Pasco WA 99301.
I am truly saddened by the passing of Scott, my father Craig Johnson worked with Scott out at the Hanford site. Scott sometimes would come watch me play football and I hunted with him growing up. One of my favorite memories of Scott is when we were hunting he had brought Jake out and was in the blind across from us, when we heard a loud “ Jake what gun did you bring?” To which Jake said “ it’s your Trap shooting gun” Scott was upset but my dad and I thought it was funny. Scott the Johnson family loves you and will be missed.
Scott was a dear friend. He will be missed.
RIP Scott and my prayers to Michelle and family. We had lots of good times in the early years. Thank you for being a freind.
I was shocked to hear of Scott’s passing. His family has my heartfelt condolences. I graduated with Scott in 1973 from Richland High School. We were classmates and teammates through junior high and high school. Those years we participated in track and field and football together. What I remember of Scott was he was an outstanding athlete in both sports. In high school, I always thought he was one of the best athletes in our graduating class. In speaking with him at the 50th high school reunion, it was obvious how proud he was about the football team’s accomplishments and his teammates.
Scott was respected by his peers and teachers. His personality was bigger than life it self. He will sorely missed who knew him. Rest in peace, my friend. My his love ones find comfort in the many memories they have of him
