John Francis Herberholz

John Francis Herberholz passed away on May 31, 2025, in Richland, WA. John was born in Spokane, WA on October 2, 1959 to John P. Herberholz and Mary Cacick Herberholz.

John dedicated 42 years to education, graduating from Eastern Washington University where he met his wife Lynn. John served as a middle school teacher, high school football official, and coach for track, wrestling, and football. He took great pride in mentoring young minds and shaping future generations. Beyond his professional life, John was deeply involved in his community as a Boy Scout leader.

A passionate sports enthusiast, John was a lifelong Mariners and Seahawks fan. His interests extended to boating, fishing, and golf. John cherished family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving, reflecting his deep family orientation. John may have lived in Washington state his whole life but his love for travel took him all over the globe to places like Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Iceland, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Hawaii.

John’s dedication to his Catholic faith was evident in his early service as an altar boy at St. Francis of Assisi Church. His faith remained a steadfast presence throughout his life.

John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lynn Herberholz, sons; Derick (Lindsey) Herberholz, grandson, Rhys Herberholz and son Travis (Tasha) Herberholz; sister, Roxanne (Walt) Prue; niece and nephew, Mathew and Monique Prue, Brother-in-Law, Rick Parker, niece and nephew Kian (Aaron) Rinner and Kyle Parker; and great-nieces and nephews, Gracie, Fionna, Sam, Charlie, and Claire. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, and his sister, Marlene Parker.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Pet Over Population Prevention, an organization that John supported with his caring heart for animals.

John Francis Herberholz lived a life full of passion, commitment, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His enduring essence will be carried forward in the stories shared by friends and family and in the lives of the many he touched.
