Nancy Kaushal

Nancy Kaushal died on Sunday May 18th in Richland, Washington. She most wanted to be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sibling and friend. Born in Newport, RI, she never forgot her ties to New England and returned there often. She graduated with a BA from the State University of New York at Albany in 1966 and received her Masters from Albany in 1969.

She met her husband, Narinder (Ninu) Kaushal, while he was a doctoral student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. They were married in 1965. In Nancy’s eyes, Ninu was the wisest, kindest, gentlest man who ever existed. They shared many wonderful adventures together, the most fulfilling of which was raising their children, Dinesh and Maya.

Always a bit of a student, she loved art, classical music, history, travel and museums. She was active in her community and helped many others through volunteer activities including the League of Women Voters, Newcomers Group, Allied Arts, as well as being a literacy volunteer. She particularly enjoyed helping coordinate the Allied Arts Christmas Market and preparing and serving hot chocolate to hundreds of visitors.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ninu, who died in 2023. She is survived by her son, Dinesh Kaushal, of Philadelphia, PA; her daughter and son-in-law, Maya Kaushal Leabman and Michael Leabman, of Pleasanton, CA, and their children Max and Matthew. She is also survived by her siblings, Jackie Majoros and her husband, Bob Kiss, of Burlington, VT; Martie Majoros of Burlington, VT; and Michael Majoros and his wife, Nancy Compton, of Providence, RI. She leaves numerous relatives in both the US and India. She has many friends in the Richland area who provided love and support through her final chapter.

“I have watched the cultures of all lands blow around my house and other winds have blown the seeds of peace, for travel is the language of peace”. – Mahatma Gandhi
