Roberta Jean “Bobbie” Dykstra Popp, age 79, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025. Born on July 3,1945, in Yakima, Washington, Bobbie lived a full and vibrant life marked by love for her family, commitment to her community, and deep joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Bobbie graduated from Prosser High School in 1963 and went on to attend Spokane Business School, graduating in 1964. She built a successful career as a Property Management Specialist with the Department of Energy, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism. Roberta dedicated 32 years towards the Department of Energy retiring at the young age 51. Even in retirement, Bobbie continued to stay active with part-time consulting and by serving as a proud and involved board member and former president of her condominium’s HOA.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Popp, with whom she shared 30 cherished years of marriage before his passing in 1998. They were married on December 10, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ted Dykstra and Irene Fightmaster Wood, and her sister Donna Anderson.
Bobbie is survived by her loving children, daughter Holly Holcomb and son Tyce Popp; her treasured grandchildren, Kelsie Popp and Jadon Popp; her brother-in-law Larry Anderson; her nephew David Anderson (Francie); her niece Rebecca; brothers-in-law Ronald and Gary; sister-in-law Sharon (Stacy); and many dear friends including Darlene and Karel. She is reunited in spirit with close friends Eileen and Judy, whose memories she held dear.
Bobbie had a zest for life and found joy in many hobbies, including crossword puzzles, playing cards and board games with family and friends where she would tend to get VERY competitive, and Nascar, the Seattle Mariners, and the Seahawks. She adored her “fur babies,” including Shasta, Lady Bug, Pooka, and many others, who brought comfort and companionship throughout the years.
She loved traveling—whether for work, family vacations, or personal adventures—including trips to the Oregon Coast, Packwood cabin getaways, a memorable trip to Washington, D.C. with her sister, nephew, and son, and attending live events like NASCAR races and a Neil Diamond concert. She also found great peace and enjoyment in yoga and her HOA community. Bobbie was a fantastic mother to both Tyce and Holly, she supported her children through many of their sporting events as the “team mom”. She was a cheerleader in High School and continued her cheer for her children.
Bobbie’s warmth, independence, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Humane Society or the Red Cross, two causes close to her heart.
