Betty J. Cartwright
Betty June (Downey) Cartwright, 86, of Richland, Washington, passed away on July 25, 2025 at her home.
Betty was born on November 9, 1938 in Park City, Utah to Dennis and Doris Downey. Betty was the sixth child out of nine. Betty graduated from Spanish Fork, Utah where she participated in Pep Club. She went on to graduate from Hollywood Beauty College in Provo, Utah in 1959.
She married Clifford Cartwright on September 30, 1960 and had 3 children: Kenny, Stacey, and Jason. Cliff and Betty lived in Utah until a job took the family to New Mexico where they stayed for four years. Another job opportunity moved them to their final residencey in Richland, Wa in 1970.
Betty enjoyed quilting-especially making baby quilts for new mothers, sewing, music, and attending the temple. Betty enjoyed helping the local Boy Scouts by presenting flags that had been flown over the White House to Eagle Badge recipients. She loved spending time with her family, serving in her church callings, and making everyone else’s life easier.
She was a loving person and she will be missed by all.
Betty is survived by her husband: Clifford Cartwright, children: Kenny Cartwright, Stacey (Marvin) Rasmussen, Jason (Brittany) Cartwright and her eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A viewing will occur at Sunset Gardens 6-8 on Tuesday, July 29th. The funeral will be held on Wednesday July 30th at the LDS Church (1720 Thayer in Richland). The viewing will start at 10 and the service will begin at 11.

You always greeted us with a smile, now matter how many weird things we brought into your house. Thank you for teaching me patience, love, and decorating for Christmas.

Such a lovely lady. She will be missed by so many. She has been a friend and a mentor to many of her ward sisters. I can still recall times when Betty would help set up quilting frames at church. We learned how to tie quilts and get to know each other better during these times. Rest in peace sweet Betty. Until we meet again.
Betty was always so kind to us neighborhood kids growing up. Always smiling and patient, especially when we didn’t deserve it. She had a great positive impact on all who met her!!
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! A warrior just went to Heaven.
My most sincere condolences to Cliff, Kenny, Stacy, and Jason (and other family members) and the loss of a most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. May you find peace and joy in honoring and celebrating her life.
“Making everyone else’s life easier” sums up the times I was around Betty and witnessed her selfless acts of service and love for others. Always making sure you were taken care of if you came to her home or cabin ❤️ Always inclusive, smiling, and sweet. Heaven gained another angel. Thoughts and prayers to the Cartwright family and friends.
Aunt Betty was so much fun! Loved visiting with her the day before the reunion at Aunt Doris’s home. Between Mom, Doris and Betty, it was a constant laugh fest! So many stories and memories that I will always cherish. So glad we came to visit her and the family two years ago. What a great time we had! Love always and forever! Debbie
