Clarence Solomon Homi

Clarence Solomon Homi, age 87, passed peacefully at his home in Richland, WA, on July 11, 2025.  He was born on September 1, 1937, in Wallace, Idaho to Solomon Homi and Bernice Fors Homi.  Since he grew up in a Finnish community in Mullan, Idaho, his parents only spoke Finnish at home where he didn’t learn English until he started school in kindergarten.  He graduated as a Salutatorian (he shares this honor with his grandson, Ethan) from Mullan High School in 1955.  He went on to college at University of Idaho where he graduated with a BS in Chemistry in 1960.  He worked at the Hanford site as a Chemist until his retirement from Westinghouse Hanford Company in 1997.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Toivo Homi, and son-in-law Stephen Scott Moss.  He is survived by his wife Patty Homi, children Leslie Moss, Clarence Todd (Kelly) Homi, Tonya (Jim) Bell, Shawn (Deeanna) Homi, grandchildren Scott Homi, Marshall Homi, Natasha (Dereck) Wing, Ethan Moss, Ariel Moss, Marissa Bell and Olivia Bell, great grandchildren Sky Wing and Raine Wing.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff with the Nuclear Worker Alliance for caring and loving him.  They were compassionate and kind to him.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later time.

  • Clarence was an easy going loving gentleman. I only knew him for a couple years.
His proudest topic was his skiing with family on the slopes. His grandchildren were so near and dear to him.
I will remember Clarence and his friend Roger watching wheel of fortune and who wants to be a millionaire when they lived in the trailer park in west Richland.
    Clarence will always be remembered.

  • Clarence always had a joke or story to tell. I wish I had written down some of those stories and jokes.
Clarence knew my grandma and grandpa and my Mom and Dad. Graduated with my Aunt Norma.
Clarence read the eulogy at my grandpa Hugo’s celebration of life and attended my Dad’s celebration of life.
Clarence and Patty let me stay with them after I graduated from the U of I to help me get on my feet.
Clarence helped me install my stereo in my first car.
I got to take a road trip over to Montana with my Mom, Clarence and Patty to visit my sister.
One of my favorite memories is when he attended my Dad’s 60th Birthday Party in Mullan. He was a good guy and will be missed.

  • Leslie and family – Sincere condolences. I remember working with Clarence many, many years ago at Hanford, as part of the Basalt Waste Integration Project (BWIP). I’m pretty sure he was part of the Chemistry Lab team in our group at 2101-M. I enjoyed working with him a lot – he was very knowledgeable and a hard worker, and he had a great sense of humor. May your many memories of times spent together and the love of family and friends comfort you at this time.
