Celebration of Life
Nancy Lucille Schreckhise
Nancy Lucille Schreckhise passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. She was born in La Junta, Colorado on June 20, 1942, to Lawrence and Lucille Frantz. She was a 1960 graduate of Rock Ford (Colorado) High School and attended Otero Junior College in La Junta. In 1962, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to work at Colorado State University. She continued to live there with her husband Gene Schreckhise after they married in 1966.
Nancy and Gene moved to Richland in 1974. While living in Maryland, Nancy started working for the U.S. Department of Energy in 1981. When she returned to Richland a year later, she worked as a secretary in the Office of General Counsel in DOE’s Richland field office. She developed a level of expertise in computer hardware and software and soon worked in the field office’s computer procurement office. She would head that office before retiring in 2003.
Nancy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, cherished friend, avid reader, outstanding gardener, and somewhat enthusiastic traveler. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, best known for her New Mexico-style green chili and burritos and holiday dinners, who often brought meals to neighbors who could not attend.
She is survived by daughter Susie Oram and son-in-law Rob Oram of Richland; son Bill Schreckhise and daughter-in-law Suzannah Schreckhise of Fayetteville, Arkansas; son Randy Schreckhise and Randy’s life partner Melissa Holmes of Carlsbad, California; and grandchildren Jake Oram, Megan Oram, Kate Schreckhise, Paul Schreckhise, and Olivia Schreckhise, and great grandchildren Delilah and Redmond. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gene Frantz and David Frantz.
A memorial service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held on October 11th at 10:30 am at the event center at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home in Richland, Washington. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories of the incredible woman she was.
Nancy was such a wonderful lady to work with. She always had a beautiful smile on her face. She will be missed by many of us who had the privilege of knowing her. She was one of a kind. You’re all in my Prayers.
God Bless,
Cathy
I am so grateful for the friend Nancy was to my mom (and for the giant dog she had when I was a little girl)! The Schreckhise home undoubtedly shaped who I became—Nancy made me believe from a very young age that women could love science and be fun, beautiful, and fierce at the same time. And she made it possible for me to have the best step-father anyone could have asked for, as she orchestrated fateful matchmaking over one her glorious dinners. What a blessing she was to the world! ♥️
I cherish my childhood memories on Blue St in large part due to Nancy, Gene, and their wonderful family. Nancy’s home was a safe space for me during frequently tumultuous times where I always felt welcomed and loved. She fed me, hugged me, and had a radiant smile. I’m so very grateful for her presence in my life. Heartfelt condolences to all her loved ones.
Since the 1970s, Nancy was such a loyal, loving friend who had Spunk! She loved her family and was a supporting friend during trying times. She and Gene insisted Joe and I meet each other. We have been married now for nearly 45 years….so they were right!! We still love their kids and will cherish memories of them for years to come!
Nancy,
Thank you for being there for me when I was sick and my mom couldn’t pick me up at school. Thank you for hosting the funnest play dates for Randy and me. Thank you for all of the laughs and the love over the years. Thank you for your generosity and for preparing and sharing your delicious meals. Thank you for your support for all my life’s milestones. Thank you for your unwavering loyalty to my family. I love you and I will miss you dearly.

Rest in peace Nancy Schreckhise….sorry for your loss Susie, Bill & Randy….your folks were upstanding people as I’m sure you all are! Peace.
I first met Nancy in 1968 at the Department of Radiology and Radiation Biology at Colorado State University where she was then the department secretary. Nancy was one of the most proficient people that I had ever met. Her husband Gene (RGS) and I were studying together in the same program and our families became fast friends,
doing much together as young families. I left the University in 1973, but in 1978 we reunited when I came to work at Hanford where they had previously settled. Like so many others who knew her, I will forever have the greatest fondness, respect and admiration that for Nancy. May she rest in peace.
Nancy was such a beautiful woman inside and out! So much to celebrate in a life well lived. Condolences to you and your family ❤️
