Darrel Hanger Goodwin

On the evening of September 15, 2025, Darrel Hanger Goodwin passed away at his home. Our beloved Dad and Grandpa entered his next team roping at the big arena in the sky.

Darrel was born July 12, 1939, in Salt Lake City, UT. He only lived there for a short time with his parents Lester and Nedra Goodwin, and older brother Verl. In 1943 the family moved to Richland, WA for the Manhattan Project, where he spent his childhood roaming the dirt roads and riding horses with his brother Verl and their friend Danny McKenzie. Darrel’s younger brother, Casey, joined the family several years later in February of 1951.

Darrel graduated from Columbia High School in 1957 and worked various jobs before deciding to go to college at Central Washington State College, now known as Central Washington University. He proudly graduated with a degree in Economics and swore he would never work for a bank. Not knowing exactly where he wanted to work, he spent some time Cowboying, working on the building of McNary Dam, and various other places such as Boise Cascade and Foster Wheeler Corp. He met and married Gloria Lee Thomas on February 16, 1964.

On April 1,1968 Darrel ate his words and started what would be his 30-year career in banking, for People’s National Bank in Pasco, WA. Several years later, he was transferred to the Othello branch. Darrel and Gloria settled in and made Othello their home where they raised their three daughters. Upon retirement, they moved back to North Pasco and built a home on Bellevue Road where they have lived for the past 29 years, hosting many family holidays.  Family was everything to them.

Darrel joined Gloria in eternal life on September 15, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria, of 59 years; his parents, Lester and Nedra Goodwin; and his brother Verl Goodwin and wife Joyce. He is survived by his brother, Casey Goodwin (Sandy); children, Jody Tucker (Nip); Kelly McDaniels; and Abby Hilmes (Stewart). Grandchildren, Tait Tucker (Ailee); Trew Tucker; Trey Nyman (Quinton); Zak McDaniels (Kendal); Trevor Hilmes; Brady Hilmes (Kimra); and Great-Grandchildren, Monty Tucker and Nash “Darrel” Nyman; and numerous families by heart, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Celebration of Darrel’s life will be held Thursday October 23, 2025, at 11am:
