In Loving Memory of Cheryl Ann Gammel Mortimer
February 23, 1944 – October 24, 2025
Cheryl Ann Gammel Mortimer passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October 24, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on February 23, 1944, in Hobbs, New Mexico, Cheryl lived a life marked by grace, compassion, and devotion to her family, her community, and her faith.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles “Mort” Mortimer, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and generosity. She also leaves behind her daughter Dana Mortimer, her son Guy Mortimer and his wife Nicole, daughter-of-her-heart Sonshine Konovalav, and her cherished granddaughters Andrea, Aurora, and Cadence Mortimer, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She also leaves behind her sister Jeanne Davoren and brother Michael Gammel.
Cheryl wore many hats throughout her life-each with grace and purpose. She graduated from Nixon-Clay Business School in Austin, Texas. She was a devoted homemaker, a meticulous bookkeeper, and a passionate entrepreneur as the owner of the Gingham Moose in Homer, Alaska, a beloved local shop that reflected her creativity and charm. She also opened her heart and home as a foster parent, offering love and stability to children in need. Her life was a testament to service, generosity, and quiet strength.
Known for her gentle spirit and thoughtful heart, Cheryl had a gift for making others feel truly seen and valued. Her home was a haven of comfort, her words a source of wisdom, and her presence a quiet strength in the lives of those she loved. She found joy in gardening, crafting, and nurturing the bonds of family and friendship. Her faith was a guiding light, and she lived it with humility and love.
A service to honor Cheryl’s life will be held on October 31, 2025, at Einan’s Sunset Memorial Funeral Home:
Viewing at 11:00 AM
Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM, followed by a reception
Graveside service at 2:30 PM

We were so sorry to hear about Cheryl’s passing. We are going to miss a very sweet neighbor and lady. We send our deepest sympathy to “Mort” and all your family. We will be in Issaquah , Wa. on Friday with 2 medical appointments. We are sad we will not be there with you. However our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Those we love and carry in our heart, are always with us. We send Blessings to each of you.
