Harold E. Johnson Jr.

Harold E. Johnson Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in September 1930 to parents Harold E (Sr) and Anna A Johnson, Harold spent his final years at Brookdale Canyon Lakes in Kennewick, Washington, surrounded by care and community.

Harold was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Merrill and Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and started his career at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1956 moved to Seattle for a position at Boeing. When in Seattle, he met the love of his life, Betty McDonald. Harold and Betty married in 1967 and moved to New Orleans (on assignment), beginning their life together. A year later their son Jeffrey was born. In 1969 they moved to the Tri-Cities for a position at the Hanford Site. Two years later their daughter Victoria was born, completing the family.

Harold worked at Hanford for 25 years, retiring in 1994. He was a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a proud member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). After retiring, Harold shared his knowledge by teaching computer classes at the Senior Center in Richland, Washington for several years.

A man of many interests, Harold found joy in family, classic cars (he owned a 1958 Porsche Speedster and later one of the first Camaros), home remodeling, tinkering with computers, Star Trek, bowling, football, and basketball. His favorite teams were the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, and Portland Trailblazers.

Harold was deeply involved in his children’s lives-supporting his son in scouts and marching band and his daughter on the soccer and softball field, where he served as a referee.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Victoria Clem and her husband Kirt, son Jeff, sister Mickie Jones, and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, after nearly 54 years of marriage.

Harold will be memorialized at a graveside service next spring, at which time he will be placed next to his wife at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham, Washington.
