Philip Michael Cordon

Philip Michael Cordon, 76, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born on November 3, 1948, in California, Philip was the youngest of ten children of George and Elzina Cordon. Raised in a large and loving family, he learned early the values of faith, hard work, and devotion to loved ones-principles that shaped every chapter of his life.

Philip was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he served his country with honor and integrity. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and soon met the love of his life, Diane Jensen. They were married on September 5, 1970, and later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity-beginning a lifelong partnership of love, faith, and family.

Philip and Diane moved from California to Oregon in 1971 and made their home in Eugene, where they lived for over 40 years. It was there they raised their family, built lasting friendships, and faithfully served in their church and community. In retirement, they relocated to Richland, Washington, and enjoyed a quieter pace of life.

Philip was a man of many talents-from building homes, fixing just about anything and racing his Mustang on the track. He also had a gift for bring people together, with many gatherings with families and friends at their home over the years. His hands were always busy, his mind sharp, and his heart open.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Philip served in many callings throughout his life. His favorite was serving as the Bishop of the Young Single Adult (YSA) ward in Eugene, Oregon, where he offered encouragement, wisdom, and spiritual guidance to many.

Philip is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Diane, and their five children: Jason (Michelle), James (Shannon), Jared (Shannon), Jenna (Craig), and Julee (Lisa). He was a cherished grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to four. He was preceded in death by his parents, all but one sibling, a grandson and great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1720 Thayer Drive, Richland, WA. A private family burial will take place prior to the memorial.

Philip lived a life of quiet service, steady love, and faithful devotion. His legacy lives on in the family he built, the lives he touched, and the example he set. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

  • Most grateful to have served Phil and Diane as their ministering couple for the past nearly 2 years. Also grateful for Phil’s quick “contractor’s” eye that caught water damage to our just-purchased home which ultimately saved us thousands of dollars. We both grew up in SoCal and (although we did not know each other then) could be found on occasion at the Pamona Drags (top fuel eliminator rods). His exemplary service in the work of The Church, especially with Young Single Adults is proof on his commitment to the rising generation. Enduring, in similitude of his Savior’s suffering, surely grants an eternal reward for both himself and his sweetheart, Diane. Free at last and, most certainly, at the feet of a loving Father in Heaven. Well done in this here and now dear friend!

  • What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man, son, husband, father, and grandfather! We were blessed to know him as our Elders’ Quorum president and friend. Diane, you were his greatest blessing as you served him and cared for him with love throughout his days. We love and appreciate you!

  • The word that best describes Philip is “friend”. I worked with Philip for a few years in the Temple Office, which I recall with fond memories. My heart goes out to Diane for her loss; Jenna and Craig, also.
